Wonderful.

All through childhood, most of us can barely wait for the day we can get out into the world and be "real" adults; able to go where we want; do what we want....

Then you reach adulthood, and the government and business reach into your life with the sort of invasive surveillance that parents could only dream of.

You know something? Why not just clip our ears with radio id's so we can be checked every hour to make sure we are not at any crime scenes. With some ingenuity, our blood could be drawn daily to make sure we have not been over the legal limit for alcohol (or have been abusing any other substances)

For maximum safety, we could all be kept in stalls and only be allowed to leave for medical emergencies. We would be super-safe then, cause criminals would have no place at all to hide.

Moo!

Seems a lot of heated comments here - many from a country where they've already given up a great deal of privacy and 'freedom' for security!

How many of you, when kids, were thinking of doing something you shouldn't but changed your mind when an adult let you know they were watching you? This is intended to provide a similar warning to those involved in street crime.

Moving street crime into other areas? Well that is a point, to a degree - a lot of the drug dealing and other crimes are purely local to the criminals - they haven't the means or desire (lazy s***s) to move far from their homes - so dealing would be moved indoors and 'anti-social' behaviour would be expected to be reduced.

As for CCTV footage not being accepted in court, that's more of a legislation problem and could also be attributed to not using high definition cameras - as the price of these comes down, I would expect them to be used more often.

The biggest problem, as some have already commented on, is the reduction of the Police on the ground - they won't care if they're being watched if there's not an officer to callar them before they leave the area and/or change their appearance? It also doesn't help stopping or catching criminals in the act - bit of a bummer if you're the victim of a sustained assault!

Lastly, I put a lot of the problems down to the courts - the criminals have little to fear when in many cases they'll just get an ASBO, fine and/or some sort of periodic detention or, if given a custodial sentence, it's going to be for a relatively short term with any sentences being concurrent - IMO, that last bit is damned stupid as the criminal is effectively given nothing for all the 'lesser' offences they may have committed- bring back consecutive sentencing and I guarantee a significant drop in offending!

I expect it's more that the small toys inside are considered a choking hazard.

Yes, but children under 3 year old can't buy them for themselves. Thus a parent that would buy this for a toddler can't be trusted with these things.
