ok so i have been trying to lose weight for a while and have managed to lose 23 pounds, but i havent dropped a single pant size! is this unusual??? i figured that since i lost this much weight that i might be able to drop at least one pant size because the last time i weighed this much i was 2 sizes smaller than i am wearing now... just wondering if anyone had any input on this because i am at a loss.

Often when we lose weight the first thing that will happen is we lose all the water we have been retaining. I lost 21lbs and all of it was water retention, dont let it dishearten you, you have done absolutely brilliant.
Our bodies clear out all the water and toxins first, keep it up. the smaller dress sizes with come ![]() |

Water weight would actually probably cause a drop in size faster than fat loss. Subcut water contributes a lot to how big we appear to be. A few things can effect size changes; we're all going to usually wear a larger size as we age, even if we're the same weight. Physiological changes like giving birth, aging, and even surgeries effect our structure and deposition of tissues. Measurements are a great way to keep focus on your goals - While a 39" hip measurement may remain stationary, thus not changing pant size, your waist may go down four inches, which speaks volumes about things like heart health.
Don't give up! ![]() Also, no, water weight loss is not good; you want to remain hydrated! |

I have to disagree with you on this one Fox
![]() A few of the customers I get come in, as well tend to not change in dress size due to turning their fat to muscle, overworking at the gym. A great book to read Korryn is Fit to Live by Dr Pamela Peeke. Everything in balance and moderation is healthy Good luck with it Korryn |

One of the things about dehydration is the body is pretty smart. It primarily takes water out of the tissues that need it less, like subcutaneous tissues which is why things like this work without causing kidney failure. This is why people frequently abuse diuretics to lose weight. Cutting water will allow you to look skinny as all get-out, but long term, or even short term, really, is not very healthy.
You cannot "turn fat into muscle." This is physiologically impossible. The basic building blocks of muscle are peptides; fat is made of lipids. These are two different chemical substances that cannot become the other. Water intoxication is increasingly common with the water craze and the of tocyltic drugs in this country. It's all about balance. Arsenic is good for you, in trace amounts. You're right; no one needs to eat 5G of sodium; but there's no reason to think this weight loss is water. A lb. of fat consists of 3500kcal. She IS losing fat if she's burning calories. Trust me - Nutrition was my area of interest in school. |

Yes I agree with Fox, I also have studied nutrition. When you lose pounds (on the scale) typically that is water loss. Many times when I did weight loss consultations, people would lose inches first and not pounds. They were baffled.
The quick answer is fat weighs less than muscle. If you exercise, you build muscle, and actually in the beginning will gain weight, but.. you will drop body sizes faster. This is because muscle burns fat. So this is why it's very important to get active when you are dieting. Also yes, hydration is very important to weight loss. Teas will DEhydrate you. But certain teas, will not. So pay attention to what you're drinking. Drink decaf if you can. |

![]() Well I have to say I agree with all of you.... lol ![]() I think each individual has to work out how to balance everything out, it took me a while, while for years I retained water, my legs and arm would puff up, specially in the heat, I was taking diuretics, while it helped, after a while it wasn't helping me. Sodium was my issue and water intake.. if ate healthy, limited my water in take and exercised it all balances out.. and when i go off track, its like im slowing getting pumped up again hahahaha... In the heat, I do start to swell up in my legs, I just elevate my legs when ever I'm sitting, and continue living healthy.. it all goes back down to normal lol.. As for the clothes factor, I'll be the first to put my hand up to where big and bulky clothes and forgetting what my actual size is. love and Light ![]() ![]() |

Perhaps it is an individual thing then, just those around me have all suffered from water retention and when losing weight this was the first to go including myself. This wasnt through dehydrating the body but through hydrating it and eating diruretics like celery, tuna etc etc. The pounds I lost were all the water that was stored in my body in the wrong places around my joints and legs. And I lost inches from all over by body.
I dont doubt any bodies expertise and opinions, from my experience, whenever I and those around me have lost weight it has been through hydrating the body which in turn has rid the body of the water retained in the wrong places and toxins. |

wow thanks for all the replies guys! and thank you for the encouragement! and dont worry i switched my soda with flavored water ( i dont like plain water) so i am getting plenty of water... and thanks for all the info on inches and sizes and why i am losing weight but not sizes.... i actually notice my upper belly legs and arms are what seem to be getting smaller at the moment so that probably why my pant size hasnt gone down because my hips are pretty mu ch the same size. thanks again you guys!
