So after todays round I thought I'd start a thread for people to vent and to entertain people with. This thread will be for your disaster hole only. And here are the rules:
So here is today's disaster hole for me. The par 5 13th hole at Williamsburg Country Club measuring 470 yards. I know that doesn't sound like much but here is the kicker. At about 250 yards from the tee there is a giant oak tree that covers half of the right side of the fairway, so you are left with the option of trying to hit a high ball that carries the tree or shape a shot through the narrow gap on the left side, plus the the entire hole is lined with 100 foot pines down both sides of the fairway. If you manage to navigate around/over the tree and try to go for it in two you have a shot a little over 200 yards and the direct line to the green has another tree blocking the green and a bunker about 20 yards short as well. The ideal way to play the hole is get around/over the tree on the tee shot, then lay up down the left side to about 60-70 yards(or closer) and you will have no tree/trap issues. This is how I played it. Big tee shot in to the wind, I attempted to fade around it only to hit it straight down the left side. I was under the trees with a clear view of the green. I had about 220 left in to the wind so I tried to fade a 3 wood around the tree/trap guarding the green only to pull hook the shot, hit some trees and drop 80 yards out with a clear shot to the green. I attempted to hit a little baby PW and just laid the sod over it and hit it about 60 yards, just short of the green. The ball settled in a semi-muddy lie so I tried to bump and run it and caught it thin and it rolled off the back of the green. Now I am short-sided with nothing but the "flop" option. I attempt to flop, chunk it, it hits the bank and rolls back down same lie. I then thin it over the green back to the same spot I chipped from a few shots earlier. This time I try the putter but just crushed it and it ran off the back of the green to almost the same flop lie. after 3 chunks of the lob wedge, I finally hit one that ends up on the green 20 feet passed the hole and 2 putts later I walk off with my 13!! |
