Had a couple blowup holes today, but this one was the worst. We played at Heather Glenn just North of Myrtle Beach and my worst hole was the par 4 tenth hole.
The hole was probably around 350 yards uphill, and a dogleg right. I chose to hit driver and sliced it to the right in to the trees. I was unable to find it and due to the course being packed the option to go back to the tee isn't an option when playing down here. So I dropped about 200 yards out as I figured that is about where it entered the trees. I had to hit a fade to carve it around the trees and I struck it well but didn't know if it was enough to get there. We drive up to find my ball in the front part of a stacked sod greenside bunker 12 feet below the putting surface, there was no way I was going to get out of the bunker going forward without hitting the lip of bunker as it was almost underneath it. The option to blast out sideways was ruled out as there was another stacked sod bunker on both sides of me. So I ended up chipping it to the back of the bunker to give me room to hit out of it. My next shot I duffed about 4 feet in the bunker, the next shot I flew over the green, then my chip was long and ran through the green back in the same bunker I started in.... Per our bets we had going on a player just picks up at double par, so I then picked up the ball in the sand and took my 8. Ugly hole!! |
