It's supposed to be in the fifties around here (Philly) on Friday. I'm gonna give it a go.
Just got an email saying there is an 11am shotgun start at one of my favorite courses on Saturday! I seriously can't believe it!

Yeah, windows are small this time of year. Anyplace we may go tells us that 10:30 will be the earliest we can go out because of frost.

In January? What are the course conditions like?
We go ever year. The average tempature in january is 57. Conditions for the most part are very good. Ever once in a while you will have an ocassional frost delay though. I have been going on this trip for 15 years, 4 sometimes 5 rounds a year and we have only not played 2 rounds. There are some years it is pretty cold, but some years we are wearing shorts.

I can assume the price for everything (lodging and golf) is considerably less than in season, yes?

Im going here on Friday. Usually its 80 to play but they are doing winter rates as whatever the high temp is for that day is the green fee. Its supposed to be 53. Ive never played it before and its fairly new. Looks like a nice course.

Yes. As I am sure you know it depends on the quality of courses you play. We usually try to play 2 upscale and 2 average course as part of our package. Our 5th round is always an extra round we try to squeeze in and is not part of the package. Typically for the 4 rounds, carts, lodging, breakfast every moring we pay about $400. They use to throw in some kind of jacket or wind shirt from one of the local courses, now they give a pretty nice coupon book for various places. I know, "coupons", but one is for Martin's, a pretty big golf stop in Myrtle that is for $25 and is just like cash. All in all, a pretty decent package.

I called our course, there's a chance they'll open Saturday as well. They'll send me an e-mail if they do.

Played 18 holes twice this week. Today was terrific weather and I was really happy with the way I played. Even made some putts.

Yeah, it's gonna be in the fifties in the Philly area. But I have a winter "honey-do" list that I've been planning for this weekend. One of my resolutions this year is to not procrastinate.

Tough call....

Couple of the local joints have re-opened indefinitely, pending the gorgeous weather. I mean, it's frickin January 6th in Wisconsin, and we're low 50's. I'm out working on the car in a short sleeve shirt and jeans.

So I made a tee time for Monday afternoon.

I did it, played golf in January in Minnesota.

A balmy 32 degrees, shot a 33 through 8 holes, on the ninth tee i gave a mighty swing...both feet turned like i was standing on ice...cuz i was, and I reinjured the groin. Couldn't even turn my hips after that. So much for playing 18 holes.

Not that the score was that good, considering the rules for the day was that if there's snow on the green it's a gimme two putt, unless you sink it in 1, which i did twice. Well I really didn't sink it, the ball stoped on top of the ice covering the cup.

Then on the way home my wife got pulled over for speeding, but the lady officer let her go with a warning.

Time to shower and fire up the grill.
