So it's my first time out this year, and after 4, I'm standing 7 over for the day, just really struggling off the tee, and playing my irons short really badly.
After 6, my hips are hurting, and I'm starting to think to myself "what am I doing out here, I don't get to come out enough to get better at this game, and I don't have the time to take lessons, and I just don't enjoy the time when I'm not playing well, I'm just too competitive to enjoy being very mediocre at something". So I play 7 and 8, ok, standing at 11 over, and the 9th is a par 3 165 VERY uphill, probably plays more like 180 or so. I hit my driving iron off a tee, straight arrow towards the green, I think I may have gotten a bit too much, but there's a decent wind coming straight down. From the teebox, you can see the flag, but not the surface of the green, and I saw it bounce once and then it was out of sight. Got to the top of the hill, took my putter out, and neither I or my playing partner saw the ball anywhere, I thought I must have really overhit it, and there was an older fella standing off to the left of the green taking care of his bag after finishing up and he says "You're not going to need your putter young fella, that thing bounced twice and ran right into the hole." !!!!!!!!!!!!!! SAAAAAAAAWEEEEEEET! And there she was, laying in the bottom of the cup. I've been playing 20 years, and have never even come close to firing an ace. I'm probably going to quit now, because it can only go downhill from here. |

That is awesome! Congrats! I hope you fulfilled your duty and bought dinner for your playing partners.... ![]() I needed the ace to get to 9 under for 9 holes, and this is a pretty easy course to boot. The rest of the round was .....meh. The really frustrating thing is I did finally decide to invest in a nice driver. I used the new Taylor on the first 4 holes (which are the 4 longest on the course) and sliced ridiculously right on 3 of the 4. The 4th one I put on the fairway because I aimed 45 degrees to the left, but I hate playing to a weakness, I'd rather correct it. The rest of the round I played off the tee with my driving iron, which is dead balls accurate, but I max it out at 220 or so, and usually closer to 190. There's something to be said for being 190 out and right in the middle of the fairway, but it's just frustrating to know what you "should" be able to do, and not be able to do it. Ah well, hard to feel bad about ANY round that has an eagle in it. |

The ball, definitely, the scorecard, maybe. Don't worry about distance with that kind of accuracy. ![]() |

Did the clubhouse give you anything? When my step-dad got a hole in one a couple years ago, he got free brats for the year. It was a pretty sweet deal, because the coupons they got, they don't carry in Arizona, which is where they go in the winter. So I got them. They are giving me a little trophy and putting an announcement in the paper of my choice, which is more than I expected. |
