So yesterday was a sparkling clear spring day after several days of rain. I get up, look around, and announce to my wife I'm heading to the golf course to get some holes in. (missed league night, so I was ready).
I figured since it was Memorial Day weekend and I live in Montana, lots of folks would be shaggin their asses to the mountains and rivers for the weekend...maybe not so much traffic on the course. Wrong. I got to the course a little after 10 a.m. Waited an hour to get added to a group as a single. Finished the round at about 4:30. Over six hours on the course without anything to eat. Shot an 83, but three of the last four holes were double bogies. I could feel my low blood sugar...shaky, jerky, unstable. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. |

You should be happy with that. I shot 85 yesterday and 81 today, my gut full, and with people I know. I've changed both the chipping and putting a bit. Use a elbows out type of stroke for putting, try to do a pendulum with the shoulders, keeping everything below locked up. Chipping, use the same simple rocking motion, just use different clubs, depending on how far I'm off the green/need to roll it, etc. But hell, it's always something in this game. Guy I played with yesterday was a hockey player, an assistant coach for the minor league/junior team we have here. I swear, the club maybe made it a little past verticle on his backswing, no more. Looked a little like something you'd see out of Calvin Peete. But he hit the shit out of it. |

My putts are all right on the edge of the hole as they go by. It's killing me.
Chipping and short pitches my problem is I just haven't taken the time to practice yet. My ball striking is pretty damn good, I'm killing myself around the green. I always say "I'm going to get over there early tomorrow and work at the practice green." Something always interferes. Either this site, or I'm tired, or like this morning when Kitty got taken and beat up by the dog soldiers and Matt took off his badge and went for revenge. Even though I'd seen it 100 times I just couldn't pull myself away from it. I had another double hit on a short pitch today. Also my one real bad swing came on a par 3 over water, splash, double bogey. Right off the toe. |

My putts are all right on the edge of the hole as they go by. It's killing me. I splashed our easy Par 3 on the front the same way. In a hurry, wrong club, brain fart. The low and slow matra is helping on the full shots. Plus keeing the clubhead square (espcially driver) going back. |
