Thing about the golf swing it it's virtually invisible to the owner. |

without taping myself I can tell that my movement to the ball is too steep as evidence by my gigantic/deep divots. If I could make my swing at address look more like my practice swing I'd shoot in the 80's, and if I could putt for shit, maybe even better than that. |

That means you're an arms swinger. Keep your head still over the ball and don't sway, then just swing by turning your shoulders. The rest of your body will follow. If you don't bend your left arm you won't take the club back too far. |

If I could see myself I'd see how smooth my practice swing was and then how jerky I am at the top of my swing when I address the ball. My shoulders open up and my hands extend farther than they did before chunking a shitload of earth. The pro's laptop with videos of my swing proves this isn't so, just feels that way. |

I couldn't hit the ball at all last weekend. We played Thursday night and I shortened my swing and started pounding it with a draw. Shot 41 and then birdied the 10th, bogeyed 11 and we quit.
Today I stuck with it. Shot 42 on the front, double bogeyed 1, and kept on trying to persevere. Shot 42, 6 over on the front. That's in line with my 12 handicap. On the back I almost holed out on 10. 170 yds, I hit a 6 iron to 4 feet. Birdied that par 3. Chipped in on 15, 4th hardest hole on the course for birdie. I ended up with 2 birdies and 2 bogeys on the back, so par on the back. Par on the back is 34. 76. I'm damn happy and won a ton of money, although my buddies ended up drinking it up. |

Since I can't play today and it's troubling me I drug yesterday's card out and looked it over.
(Also because of how much I know all our readers love to hear about my exploits) 9 putts on the back for a total of 24. I double bogeyed 1 and bogeyed 2 and 3 so I was 4 over after the first 3 holes. That means I played the last 15 holes in 2 over. |

I'd struggled all spring. Dinked around with a few things, but meh. In league Thursday I was charmed. Almost holed out from one bunker and sand saves aren't my thing. Got into the clubhouse with 38. All I could think was that my league handicap will probably be 3 or 4 next week since they don't appear to weight the number from the year before. It was fun. Hoped to go out this weekend, but side work yesterday and the yard today took that out of the plan. |

Nice. Aren't we always in pursuit of the Holy Grail? I said Hey 100 shooter, I'm happy. You'd best get to working on your own game. |

My son said Hey just think if you hadn't screwed up at the start. You'd have been close to par. The trouble is, staying there. I heard you talking about the short swing. What you may give up in distance you probably make up in accuracy? Hell, I think even Tiger has shortened up his swing. What I've been working on (it's ALWAYS something): Low and slow (ha) start to the backswing; rocking my shoulders on chips and on putts. I've always been too handsy. |

Scores in the high 30's and mid 70's put guys like us in a good mood all week. |

I gain distance with a short swing. What feels short to me probably looks close to parallel. I try to stop the woods short of parallel and the irons at a little more than 45 degrees from parallel but I don't get it done according to the camera. I used to have a lot of "wrap" as a good golfer once described it, but what made it a long swing was broken down wrists and elbows. Rarely could make everything sychronize properly. A look at video of my swing was alarming and educational. Now, after a lesson about 8 years ago, I take it back a fraction of that amount, but under control, usually. I'm not in love with the long ball like many. Hell, I finally bought my first big headed driver last year at the pawn shop for $20. Keep the drive in play, make a decent approach...chip and putt. |

I don't think I'm close to parallel anymore. Part of that is age, sure. I didn't get my score with the long ball, it was chip and putt as you say. That's the name of the game but I don't think any of us practice it enough. |

I never take it back so far the my left arm bends anymore. Chip and putt is the name of the game. I crushed a drive the other day and put my skycaddy on it for yardage, only 260. Another hole, uphill, only 235. The great majority of them don't reach that. I've made a conscious effort to chip more before a round and focus when I practice putting. The old-fashioned elbows out style of putting has helped me control the putting stroke better this year. So far! Wonder what I'll be talking about in August... |

I'm a belly putter convert. I've played with the same 20+-year-old Acushnet Bullseye putter for about 12 years. Looks like an antique next to the other equipment seen out there. She's never let me down...my stroke has, once or twice. I think this is it: ![]() Lefty, though. |
