Default Wie ousted
Wie unable to recover from early five-hole deficit

Associated Press

LEBANON, Ohio -- Michelle Wie's quest for a Masters invitation ended Friday with a 5 and 4 loss in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links.

Wie, the 15-year-old high school junior, lost four of the first five holes to Clay Ogden and never recovered. Ogden, a junior at BYU from West Point, Utah, was brilliant throughout the match.

Ogden won holes No. 1, 2, 4, 5, and 9 to take a 5 up lead at the turn after Wie picked up her only win of a hole when Ogden bogeyed the 10th hole. Ogden then came back to birdie the 11th hole and push his lead back to 5 up with seven to play.

The players then halved the next three holes with Ogden closing out Wie on a conceded par putt on the 14th green. Ogden was appearing in the quarterfinals of the men's Public Links for the second year in a row.
