Champion's Tour used to be called the Senior Tour. They changed the name...why? So viewers wouldn't think it was just old guys hacking around?
What gets me is that they have 5 "majors". What the hell? The old duffers have Major golf tournaments? No. I don't think so. The best players at golf have major tournaments, four for the men, probably the same for the women. The players competing here are the best in the world and are playing on the toughest courses for the most money. That's why it's a major. Should the amateurs have majors too? They just make this shit up sometimes. Oh, yeah, there's one difference between the major tournaments and the regular events on the Champion's Tour: They play four rounds instead of three. Whew, quite an accomplishment. |

Marketing to draw viewership by using the term "major" as it is known in professional golf. |

The guys on this tour made the PGA what it is today. I think they've earned the right to call these tournaments whatever they choose. If they want to declare the winner of a major the world champion of golf, I would have no reservations. Of course, I, and any other rational fan, would understand that the winner is not the best golfer in the world. Don't dilute the meaning of the term by calling it so, in my opinion. |

Please. Should we have a senior "Super Bowl" too, based on the legacy of the old players? Their time has come and...gone. I'm still not sure what this does to hurt the term "major." I understand major to mean: Main Entry: 2major Function: noun 1 : a person who has attained majority 2 a : one that is superior in rank, importance, size, or performance b : a major musical interval, scale, key, or mode 3 : a commissioned officer in the army, air force, or marine corps ranking above a captain and below a lieutenant colonel 4 a : an academic subject chosen as a field of specialization b : a student specializing in such a field <a history imajor/i> 5 plural : major league baseball -- used with the The bolded segment is the part that applies to golf. These championships are superior in rank, importance, size, or performance compared to other tournaments. Just like the 4 big PGA tournaments are superior in rank, importance, size, or performance. |

The Super Bowl is for football, silly. They're certainly not the best four tournaments in the game of golf. That's reserved for the PGA majors, and it's why all the best golfers show up for them. |
