Next Saturday, the 11th August, my friend and I head up to sunny(hopefully) Scotland to take part in the 2012 Eden Tournament.
http://www.standrews.org.uk/Tourname...onditions.aspx This is an International tournament, and there are guys from all over the world taking part. Everyone plays two rounds (one on Eden Course & one on New Course). The lowest 64 gross then play in scratch matchplay knockout. The next lowest 32 nett players then play in a handicap matchplay knockout. I have played twice before, but have not yet made the matchplay stages. 2009 I missed out by 2 for the scratch and 2010 missed by 5. I am determined to get my butt in gear this year and qualify. We will wait and see. This is some of the best value golf anyone could find. Excluding travel & accomodation the golf entry is £120 and for that you are guaranteed 6 rounds even if you don't make the matchplay. If you don't make the matchplay stages, there is a Stableford comp on the thursday on the Jubilee Course. This is used as an Open Qualifier course and is far tougher than the Old, Eden or New. Just wondered if any of you guys out there are playing this year, and if not, you should seriously consider it next year. Assuming I can get internet connection during the week I will post a few pics and results. Even if the results are crap. |

This looks incredible.. It is normally the first week in Feb. The way it works is that on a stated date, they make the entry web page active at 13:00 GMT and to enter you need to fill the online form in and submit it. The first 120 forms received in that fashion get automatic entry regardless of handicap (up to 15.4). The entry procedure closes 4 weeks (I think) after the initial date. After that closing date, the second 120 places are filled by handicap order. If you are interested, you will need to be sat ready at your PC to enter bang on 13:00. The first 120 places are normally filled within the first 1.5 minutes of it going live. This year I did not get in on the first 120 as my entry took 105 seconds. After the closing date I was sat at number 255 so was at number 15 on the reserve list. Usually they get approx 20 - 30 people either not paying or pulling out and they then take people in hcap order off the reserves and that is how I managed to get in this year. The ballot handicap cut for the second 120 this year was at 4.1, the lowest it has been for some time. If interested, do your utmost to get an entry in. You will NOT be disapointed. |
