THP got a chance to speak with Jim from GolfTEC today and the conversation was really interesting.
This Episode Features: GolfTEC teaches outdoors too? Playing golf versus playing golf swing. The two ways golfers should be practicing. And much much more. http://www.thehackersparadise.com/?p=16971 |

The idea of how to practice was fascinating to me. Two types of practice and it makes all the sense in the world. It sounds like golftech is stepping (has stepped?) up to make that possible as well. Go-Go Gadget Signature! |

Thanks to Jim from GolfTEC for being on the show! I had no idea they had local affiliations so that outdoor lessons were available, that is definitely good to know and is what I would prefer.
It was really good to hear about how GolfTEC approaches lessons and what the student can expect / be expected to do in order to see maximum gain. Good dialogue around being willing to step a step back so that you can take 3 steps forward, that is definitely tough to go through as all we want to do is progress forward. |

I will have to listen to this later but I did want to mention that I did have an outdoors lesson with Josh from GolfTec and it was an awesome lesson. We spent the majority of the time working on the short game and then hit the range and not only worked on my swing but also on how to work the range to make the most of my practice time. I am also pondering on springing for a nine hole lesson on course management.

It's been about a year since my last GolfTEC lesson and it is partly because I didn't feel I was getting full impact by being inside all the time. One of my big problems is hitting it a little fat or thin (more often slightly fat) and being indoors hitting off of a matt or tee just doesn't yield the same end result. My swing looked better and felt better and when I made good impact everything worked fine but I was still getting fat/thin shots out on the course. I may have to revisit the local GolfTEC and see if they are doing the outdoor lessons also now. I loved the indoor stuff and the technology, I just wanted to get the best of both worlds. If they are making a bigger effort to do that now then it would be great.

I'm currently taking lessons at GolfTec and this is the first I've heard about outdoor lessons. I'll need to talk with my coach. With that said I was very reluctant to join being only indoors but I'm defiantly seeing an improvement. The way they do it is in stages beginning with your address working to the follow through. The key IMO to having success with them is to practice what they teach you frequently one step at a time. You cannot start working on impact when you are at the back swing stage for example. It will only make things worse. Every 30 min lesson I take is followed with a 30 min practice lesson to work on what was taught that day. I will then work at the range 3x a week on the same things. I have gone from scoring in the 100's to now the high 80's in 3 months.

What a good time for this radio show. Did you plan this lol?
Honestly, so much of what you guys talked about makes sense to me. Practicing indoors on mechanics has been much better for me for a few reasons. I'm not as 'results' focused in that all I think about is whether or not I'm hitting a rotten shot in front of a lot of people. Also, that stress free environment helped me see that I could in fact hit the hell out of a golf ball. What I've had to do (and still struggle with at times) is take that free-feeling attitude outside. It's a challenge, but I do think it's coming along. Practicing letting go and trusting what I've learned (in lessons) while on the course really does make sense to me. I've found so much more success lately by just trusting that I've learned how to swing and need to just let it rip. This was a great listen and I think it could help a lot of people out there. |
