Default 3 Club Tourney (what would you choose?)
I'm positive this has been discussed here before, but our league has a 3 Club Tourney coming up this week and as fun as it sounds, I don't think I've ever played in one before or even emulated it. I've done the 7 iron challenge, but never a 3 club to my recollection.

Anyway...I was interested to find out what everyone would choose for their 3 clubs.
Obviously, your strategy may differ depending on what course or what 9 you're playing...but just think of it in general as your standard public 18 hole course.

I'm pretty sure I'll be going with:
3 wood
6 iron
48* wedge

I should be able to do some pretty good damage with those clubs.

Very similar for me, but I would go 3W, 7I, and PW.

Guess it depends on the course. Is there any forced carries or long par 3s? If not, I'd probably dial it back just a bit for comfort's sake (I'm not that good) and go with 5W, 7I & 48˚. That's enough to carry 200+ off the tee. My 7I is my favorite iron. I agree that the 48˚ gives you the best options with the wedges. Try to keep it out of the green side bunkers!

You allowed to carry a putter for this?

I think the big question is to bring putter or not? You can save a lot of strokes on the green with that putter unless you think you can putt well with another club.

Putting with a 3 wood like Tiger did 10+ years ago.

This is what I was thinking as well.

I would go 4h, 9i, Putter if that were the case. or even substitute the 9i out for my 48*

I think the putter makes you give up more than you gain, but I'm not a great putter anyway. I might miss a few more with a 6i / 3h than my putter, but I think I'd make those up with the extra club option tee to green.
That's all course dependent, though. Are the greens super fast and sloped? Elevated greens? Some / all par 3s play to about the same yardage?

So, depending...M2 / 9i / putter or M2 / 6i / PW.

I'd do 3h / 8i / 56. You can put half decently with a 56 for short putts and the 3h for longer putts

My league did this last year. We got 3 clubs plus the putter. I went with 3w, 8i, 56*.

This is the big question. My league did something like this and the 9 holes we were playing has an "island" par 3 so I took the club that I would normally hit for the hole

I think I would have to go with a 3W, 8I and my 56W. I was tempted to select the RBZ 5 iron since I tend to hit it pretty well.

3H, 8i, putter

I see people losing a bunch of strokes on the greens not having a putter. Sure, you can try and putt with a 3W or 3H but when you are 6 feet long or short and then miss that you just blew the hole.

3w, 8, 56. I get good distance off my 3, I can rip the 8 as far or farther than my 6 if I so choose, and the 56 gives me good versatility.

I think I would grab my 3h, 7i, and pw. The hardest part for me was deciding on the middle club...

surprised so many are quick to ditch the putter... I bet that'd be something they regret after 3-4 jacking every single green!

especially if you leave your preferred chip/pitch wedge out of the 3 clubs... you're going to have longer putts than you would normally encounter on a casual round... making the putter even MORE important

I'd be all in with hybrid, putter and 8i

I said I would use my 5 wood, 7i and 56 ATV earlier and then I though what about my putter? But I could just use the 5 wood since the loft is still pretty low that I could putt with it if needed haha

I'd probably choose 3 iron, 8 iron, and putter. Chances are that Im going to be pretty far from the stick with all 8 iron approaches so I'm gonna need my putter to save as many strokes as possible. Sounds like a fun match!
