Default Morgan Cup Fantasy Golf - Could We?
Not sure if it's already been mentioned... but could we do some sort of fantasy golf for the Morgan Cup as a way for the non-participants to take part and have a stake in the event? I know it's team based match play, but maybe for the sake of this we could pick any player from any team?

Not as complex as Yahoo where you have four starters and four subs, but maybe just pick four golfers and the person who's team has the best finishing record wins? Maybe put a salary cap on it and give players points based on handicaps? For example, if JB and TC are worth 5 points each and the salary cap is 10, that's it, you pick those two and you only have two players. Or you pick 5 guys who's point value is 2.

Someone might be able to pick a better way to do it, but I thought it would be an interesting way to get the THPers who aren't participating to pay close attention and have something riding on the performance of their fellow THP members.

We did have some forum member bets on the event last time. It was pretty fun to have something on the line.

To be honest, I am not sure its fair to downgrade or downplay the people in this event. In my opinion, all people are created equally as soon as they are involved. While I am all for participation and there will be video of the event, as well as lots of banter during it, I think that giving "values" to any golfer involved based on their abilities is not the right way of going about it.

If a value is to be given, it should be based on participation and their ability to share the Morgan Cup with the rest of the world.

I understand that and agree. I didn't mean to diminish anyone's game. I'd probably be one of the highest handicaps in the MC if I was playing!

I wonder if there is a way we can do it without the value. Anyone have ideas?

Pick 3 or 4 players and whatever team gets the most points wins. No need to value any person in particular.

What about one golfer from each team?

I honestly think that doing something like this diminishes from the overall value each participant is to their team. Seeing the same person or persons picked over and over again from a team takes away from what each participant will be contributing. Root along, root hard and select a team to root for, but choosing individuals (to me anyway) takes away the hard work that everybody has put into this event.

It does sound like fun but I agree with JB. I see only feelings being hurt and that shouldn't happen to anyone participating in the event.

You would have been my first pick Chunky.....but oh well..Haha I can definitely see how people feelings would get hurt. No one wants to be picked last or not at all.

Here's what we did last year and it was pretty fun. Just picked a team to support and had some fun bets. I think there were some wagers on matches as well. I lost and had the worst signature ever for two weeks I think.

Ok, I concede. Not such a bright idea after all. We can just stick with picking a team and pulling for that team.

After my idea bombed, I think this looks like lots of fun! Can we start a 2012 MC Wager thread Hawk?

With JB's blessing, I don't see why not. I think I quoted him for some guidance in my first post of that thread and it's a good one to stick with.

It was a fun way for people to get involved and the thread ended up being almost 70 pages by the end.

I would suggest that whomever starts that thread be willing to follow all the subsequent posts and keep the first post updated with all official bets for ease of reference.
