Default Hand Pain
Over the last few weeks i've been having some pain on the back of my hand between my thumb and index finger running towards my wrist when i grip and swing a club. Has anyone had anything like that?

Thanks
Barry

I have been having very similar issues for about 3 months now. To be honest, I have just been dealing with it through ibuprofren and something a bit stronger if needed.

My wife thinks it *could* be arthritis. She has it and my symptoms are eerily similar to what she describes.

Luckily, it does not bother me enough when swinging that it causes issues but between swings and post round can be quite painful. Yesterday was the worst day in awhile for me. Slept with a wrist brace on but it's not doing much good.

I am in front of computers all day long and constantly typing so not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Definitely something I plan on getting checked out in a few months.

Very similar thing here for about 6 mos now. It's mostly in my thump, but runs slightly up the index finger and around to the thump pad of my hand. I use Biofreeze and ibuprofren with little result at this point.

I always just thought arthritis, but kind of doubting that now as it does not go away. May be carpal tunnel.

I too noticed this last weekend and it sucks, I got it after hitting a ball from deep rough, it hurt I just left it alone for a while and it was fine. It kind of feels like my hand was cramping but way more pain sometimes. I have gotten this before though from too many years of playing Cello and Guitar extensively + golf made it worse haha

I had an occurrence of this a couple yrs ago in my left hand and it's sounds a lot like what you're experiencing. It sounds like De Quervains tendinitis. I went through anti-inflamitories, a brace for 5 months and 2 cortisone shots to the joint. Finally, a yr later had surgery to solve the problem.

Here's a link to a good explanation:

They sliced away the synovium on mine because the tendon was so inflamed it wouldn't slide through. No problem since...

Have hand and wrist pain all the time. So much so it can cause me to not play. Get it checked out as it could be a couple different things.

I had something like this a few months ago. I rested it, applied cold packs (frozen peas work well) with a 1st aid wrap and used ibuprofin. It was gone within a few days. But I did that pretty much immediately upon feeling pain and mostly didn't try to play through it.

I've had that once. Use your best judgment on whether to have it checked out by a doctor, especially if the pain persists for longer than a week. When I had it, it was just the result of a chunky shot, seemed to put a lot of strain on my wrist and on into my fingers. However, it got better after a couple days and was better by the end of a week.

I have had that pain before from playing hockey for oodles of years....It is a combination of having your hand in a non-natural position for extended periods of time. ie: your hand should not naturally curl into a club/grip shape. The other possibility is that you are gripping too tight.

I was having pretty bad left hand pain by the end of last year's golf season. A winter of rest & it cleared up...

Thanks for all the reply's, i kinda agree that it could be tendinitis from overuse as i have been playing about 4 times a week recently. I'll apply ice etc and see how it goes and if it persists then i will consult my doctor. Many thanks for the input

This is great, i done the small test and i could feel the slight pain when i tilted my wrist. i can also feel numbness in my thumbs so i'll follow the treatment instructions and see how i got on.

Thanks Spazzdog

Happy to help.

For some it goes away by just not using it... For me, it just never let up, thus the surgery after a yr of suffering.

bwahahaha!

I also have the hand pain from time to time on course, usually after I try to grip and pick up something. Never a steady enough pain to narrow it down or for it to bother me though.
