for me it depends on a few factors.....

how i am scoring, and how well i am hitting the club needed to get there.obvioulsy weather conditions depends on if it's doable in the first place,if it's wind into face and it's wet then no chance, what's the point?.

it's all about course management!

The wind better be at my back, and if I get a good bounce or two or three off the cart path I might go for it.

First, the distance must be comfortable and the ball in a good lie. At that point it becomes a risk/reward decision.

It depends a lot for me first how well I've been hitting the club I'd need that day. Then I'll look at the trouble around the green. Though on the longer holes a lot of times I end up where even hitting 3W I'm laying up.

I'm more of a no gutts no glory type of guy. If I know for sure I can't make it. Then I won't even try. But if I've hit a shot that distance before and no wind then it's all go. It seems as if when I don't try to go for it, I duff the shot or something stupid happens and I wind up having losing the stroke anyways. So I say "DUCK IT" and go...

Distance first, anything more than 200 and i lay up. then its lie and trouble and not necessarily in that order.

If there's a hazard to clear or other trouble short of the green, then I generally only go for it from 220 yards and less. Of course this number may go up or down depending on course conditions, wind, weather, etc. If there's no significant trouble short of the green, I pretty much always go for it. Coming up a little short is usually an easier up and down then from over 100 yards away.
