Default Back at it after 3 years! What irons should I get?
When I quit playing, I was using a Snake Eyes 600-series blended set (600C long irons, 600B short irons). I was about a 12 hdcp and I loved the feel of forged irons. I quit playing golf and started playing softball so my golf swing should be nice and screwed up. I am definitely not getting blades, and probably not even forged cavity's. Price-point is probably the biggest factor. I will probably get a cheap set now and upgrade later when I find my swing. After looking around for a couple weeks I am thinking either the 2010 Nike Slingshot, Cleveland CG series, maybe Taylormade Burner? Anything else I should consider?

Any suggestions for woods would be much appreciated as well.

I found this board yesterday, and I am already addicted...AWESOME!!

Tons of great options. Check out many of the testing threads and see what others are saying about all the latest stuff.

I would check out the equipment section- specifically the golf clubs, balls, and accessories section. There's a ton of good reviews for all sorts of irons and woods.

I hate to endorse them due to terrible customer service but nailedgolf it has burner irons for a hell of a deal last I checked. Loved the irons actually regretting not getting them instead of what I bought!

I think irons have come along way even in the last year. Theres not a company out there that doesn't make a decent iron. If your looking or like the forged irons check out the TM TP threads. Like JB said check out the hundreds of threads on here with reviews. Narrow it down but what your looking for, brand and then search for them on here. They testing and reviews on this set are like nothing you'll read any where else.

Tapaway!

First off Welcome to the forum! It is the best out there by far.

Like the others check out the review threads on here, tons of great reviews. I like you stepped away from golf(school). I hit a lot of clubs at my local golf galaxy on several occasions and decided on TM Burner Plus. I enjoy them and they have been a good set for me to get back into golf with. Good luck on your search.

I wouldn't get anything new until you know what you want to improve upon with your current setup.

A world of great options out there. I went to the big box golf store and grabbed just about every 7 iron off the wall and went into a bay and hit to see what felt the best. I then had an idea of which ones to focus on when I got on a launch monitor. Read up here and elsewhere to have as much info as possible when you do get serious. I then went to the PGA Superstore and spent over an hour on a monitor hitting my top 5. I was lucky that they had a Srixon demo club because that was the winner. Do yourself a favor and find this club to hit before you buy anything else. Happy shopping.

One of the iron sets you mentioned was the Cleveland CG16 series. I have those irons and will tell ya I love them. You definitely need to read the reviews and then put these on your to do list.

Go hit everything you can get your hands on. And read all the reviews on this site. I know they helped me out a lot!

Check into the reviews on numerous clubs. I use the Burner 1.0 and love them. But as the others have said with all the options out there, do yourself a favor and look around a bit before commiting
