Default Traveling Question
I heading to Orlando in a week and this the 1st time that I am putting my clubs on a plane.

I have seen several travel cases: soft, hard, and a combination of both.

The are doing in the my cart bag up to the head for the most part. My concern are my woods and driver which have a couple inches of shaft exposed.

Will I be okay with a soft case? Or should I go with a bag with a hard shell top? I don't want to get there and find the shaft snapped.

Wrap some golf towels or clothes around them and invest in a stiff ARM.

I have a soft case and have travelled twice with it with no problems, all you need to do is twirl a couple towels up and weave them around your drivers and woods. The towels protect the exposed shaft areas easily.

Here's a search to a lot of travel bag threads:

Good information in all of them. Common suggestions include a Stiff Arm and wrapping the parts of the clubs sticking out of the bag.

I have a soft bag and highly recomend a StiffArm. I still wrap towels around everything and my driver/3w have removable heads that I stick in a pocket of the bag.

We (my wife and I) have travelled with our clubs using soft bags (Ogio Monster). We use a stiff arm as well and towels / clothes.
I haven't used a hard case but the issue that others shared was managing the case once you are travelling by car at your destination. They can take up a lot of space in a car.

Enjoy your trip.

I bought a hardcase off craigslist, and it's super sturdy. You could definintely ride a bicycle over it without it deforming.

The search id changed for some reason? Anyway here it is again: http://www.thehackersparadise.com/forum/search.php?searchid=17668

If that doesn't work later, doing an advanced search for titles with "travel" as the keyword will work.

Never heard of Stiff Arm before- thanks to all for the heads up.

It'll be my first time ever flying with golf clubs in about 3 weeks; definitely will be ordering one!

I fly with my clubs once or twice a month. I bought a SKB deluxe hard case for two reasons: 1) many airlines make you sign a waiver for damage for your clubs if you have a soft case. This was a big red flag for me.... 2) SKB will insure your clubs up to $1500... not sure how hard it is to make a claim if your clubs are damaged, but I don't see how they can get damaged in these cases...

The down side is that it is big... it fits in the trunk of my Camry, but not in the trunk of every car. But for $160 or so, and considering how much I travel with them, it is well worth the money and the peace of mind...
