I was browsing around Facebook and I stopped at the Nike Golf Facebook page. They so much really great information plus tons of pictures of players, equipment and so much more.
What really caught my attention was the very last entry they made. It's the THP review on the crush golf ball! You can check out their Facebook page here: Nike Facebook Page | Facebook |

No offense intended, but is THP sponsored by Nike or something? It seems like you guys promote Nike a lot, with the constant "press releases" and now promoting Nike's FB page. Like I said, no offense intended, it just seem like you guys talk about Nike a lot more than any other brands. We are sponsored by NOBODY. We promote every brand as promotion comes up. However I know you do not like Nike, so you CLEARLY did not click the link. The reason it was put up is because THP is featured on their facebook page. As for what we discuss and promote. I think if you do some looking around, you will see that TM is the most discussed brand on this thread. Not because we want to, but they have the most products coming out right now. |

Its not just that, it seems like every week you put up a few Nike press releases, even ones that are half-truths at best which are nothing more than ads thinly veiled as press releases. We put up the press releases from every major company as they come out assuming we feel it is news. You have a distaste for Nike and you have said so many times. THat is fine and a personal choice. However I have never seen a press release that I felt was dishonest or I would not put it up. Some brands put out releases more than others. Take the brand you promote as your favorite. I have put up every press release they have put up in 2009. Trouble is they have put out less than a dozen total. I very much thought it was news when one of the largest equipment makers in the world puts our site on their page. However I did the same when small companies like Sligo, SeeMore, and so many others put out releases or put us on their respective sites. Some sites are sponsored by companies and take thousands of dollars each month to promote those companies and only put out releases that they seem fit. We are a different kind of site and promote every brand as they make news. When a company wins basically all the tournaments on a given weekend that is news to me and I think others that tune into THP. THis is not in anyway a personal attack, however as a site that has built their reputation on being unbiased and ad free, it strikes a nerve a little. |

And Nike has been winning a lot lately and leaking their new stuff, so you should expect a lot of press releases from them. I'm not sure what you mean by "half-truths" though. That implies "half-lies" and I don't recall anything beyond the normal "puffery" that all companies use. |

just a heads up, I clicked on the Facebook link and it took me to a personal Facebook page...then I logged into facebook in another window, clicked on the link in the post and went to Nike's Facebook page...weird Same thing happened to me. Its not just that, it seems like every week you put up a few Nike press releases, even ones that are half-truths at best which are nothing more than ads thinly veiled as press releases. A company will approach us with a contest idea and we are flattered at the opportunity because that means they clearly feel we are large enough now to reach a major audience. We do not accept any money from anyone, in fact the contests always cost us money through shipping costs, but it's fun and it helps spread the word of THP so we do it. We were not promoting Nike's facebook page we were promoting THP by showing that our review was showcased on their page. We thought that too was a huge compliment to THP. We have done the same with Daphne's Headcovers, Lija, SeeMore, Golftini, and the list goes on and on. If we make it to someone else's site that is huge in our eyes and we want to celebrate it with our members. I am truly sorry if you feel that we publish too much on Nike but we only put up what they release and like most have said they are having one heck of a winning year so there is a lot to put up. |

The thing about THP is the forum members contribute as much feedback on items as JB and GG. That's what makes this forum so great is everyone has a voice and everyone's opinion is usually listened to. I personally have never thought they show a bias to anyone and as a matter of fact JB has pissed off a few companies with his honest reviews. I've said it before that I think Nike has improved their equipment in the past 5 years as much as any other company. But the bottom line is when I'm looking for new equipment no review in the world influences me enough to pick one club over another unless I get a chance to play them myself. So regardless of what any company says, if it doesn't work for me then I'm not buying it, all fluff aside.

Everyone has a different body shape, skin tone, personal style, etc...When I do clothing reviews my goal is to introduce a brand, or line, or new style of clothing to the public. I am not trying to sell anything just educate. |

I suspect that there is a certain amount of confirmation bias going on here. If someone doesn't like a particular company, then whenever they see that company's name, they notice it and it stands out, but they just breeze past all the other companies without stopping to look and the other companies don't register. Then it can get in that someone's head that the site is overpromoting one company over others, so they go looking for that and every time they see that company, it serves to confirm their assumption so they remember that and every time they see something that contradicts it (like a press release for another company) they ignore it because it doesn't serve to confirm their assumption. As such, it's remarkably easy to get into your head that there is a bias somewhere when there simply isn't.
I don't know whether there is a bias on the site or not, but it seems fair to me to accept JB and GG's word on it and therefore assume there is not. |
