Default To Break Or Not To Break
When I play Winter golf, I break tees on almost every hole, but in warmer weather - I only break some. Years ago, I was told that I should be breaking the tee. Now, I've been told that's not true. I know some of you use unbreakable tees, but for those of you still using the old-fashioned wooden tees - do you break or not?

When I am hitting the ball well, I do not break tees. Or, so it seems. I have played a whole round of golf using the same tee, and the same ball. No lost balls means I played well.....I guess

Just depends on how hard the ground is and how far I push the tee in. If it is hard they break, if not they just pop out of the ground. If I make really clean contact, they don't move.

I have literally a 1000 tees so I don't think too much of it.

Does that mean you hit a better shot when they break or when they don't?

I use those unbreakable ones, pink( l live with two girls who also golf), and they usually last more than a round. A package will last me more than a season. I usually pick up broken tees and use them on the par 3's. The unbreakable ones don't survive my irons.

I haven't noticed a correlation proving that breaking a tee means anything.

I think StLCardsFan has it right when he basically says it depends. I tee my ball up pretty high, so sometimes I break it and other times I don't. I guess I should start paying attention to quality of drive vs if the tee breaks or not.

Me neither. (Unless it's a short tee that I've stuck all the way in the ground for a hybrid shot, in which case a broken tee means I've fatted the crap out of it.)

They're Walmart tees. Sawdust formed into the shape of a tee then held in that shape by paint. I don't know if bad shots break them. I would assume they probably do.

Sometimes they break and sometimes they don't. I haven't paid attention to how the shot went. Hey, one time...I hit the tee farther than the ball...That one broke I remember.

I rarely break them when teeing off with the driver. My 3-wood and hybrids, are a different story. I break them often.

I agree about the WalMart tees, they must be made of balsa wood.

If I am using any decent quality tee, I seldom break one.

I haven't noticed any difference in my shots when they break or not.

It seems when I use painted tees they don't break as often, but the "natural wood" ones never last. For me at least!

I used to break quite a few tees especially in colder weather when the ground's hard. I've switched to the plastic 3-pronged Zero Friction Tees. They rarely break... and they are available in a bunch of colors if you don't mind hunting around...

I found one of those on the course and started using it. They might not break but they bend and make it hard to get in the ground.

Yeah, you're right bogey, over time they do have a tendency to bend... You should be able to straighten it out and get it in the ground... I can usually get a handful of rounds out of them. I could probably get more, but I bought 250 of them on eBay, so I'll replace them when they start get a noticeable bend.

I like the Epoch tees from Evolve Golf. I just wish they would make them in colors other than white.
