Default Talking To Yourself
Julie mentioned Tiger referring to himself in the 3rd person and I started thinking about that. Do you ever do that? I do a bit, but only when I give myself a pep talk on the course.

Not in the 3rd person, my grandson used to refer to himself in 3rd person all the time. But I think we are all guilty of talking to ourselves. No we aren't! Shut up you dumb@$#@.

Third person is the only way to properly scold oneself. I do it all the time.

Yes. It is always something like this. At the end of a bad swing with the ball flying in the wrong direction.... C****, you idiot, what the h*** were you thinking! Volume is adjusted inversely proportional to how bad the shot really was.

I am somewhat confused, but I may need an English or grammar lesson (it is not my first language). I can only remember TW referring to himself in the 2nd person: "C'mon, Tiger!". I don't recall him referring to himself in the 3rd person: "Tiger needs to get the ball in the fairway!".

I refer to myself in the 2nd person quite often on the golf-course, though not by name. It is more like: You ******** idiot. You ****! You stupid ******* ******! and stuff like that!

Bad Harry!
You could beat me, but you have to tie me up first.

I verbally abuse myself on the golf course frequently and I do often use my name when addressing myself. Crazy? Maybe. Does it work? Not so much.

Why don't you try being nice to yourself - giving yourself a pep talk instead of abusing yourself. I find that works rather well.

I'm beyond verbal abuse. I have now crossed the line to physical abuse to onesself. A driver to the shin after a slice is a good reminder of what you did wrong.

The bag in your sig doesn't list a driver. After a bad course do you come home limping telling your wife that a Sumo or Big Bertha beat you up?

That's why I've since stopped carrying a driver. Don't even get me started on the beating I took when all my wife heard was I got attacked by Bertha?

Guilty. I'm always saying things like "Dave you Dumb@#$%, why did you do that?!" What's really crazy is when Dave answers back..
