Provisional - I never understand those guys that think golf is a race. Don't get me wrong - I don't enjoy slow play, but I think it's better to play at a pace where you're not racing for the finish line or the 18th green as the case may be.

We had an add-on today - nice guy and slower than slow. His set-up too forever and he would just stand and ponder things. We tried to not talk to him very much because he would stop everything including walking to respond. We tried to get him to speed up by pointing out the group behind us was waiting or the group in front was too far ahead. We were only about 1/2 a hole behind so it didn't seem worth it to be very blunt with him. He really was nice.

i think now you may understand it a little more? Waiting on people for some is worse than others.

I don't understand it either.

Golf is supposed to be leisure time and recreation, so this "hurry up" attitude is completely incongruous to that end. When these "clock watchers" are at work, do they think to themselves that if people moved faster they could have written six more reports or loaded three more trucks?

I seriously doubt that, so why the rush on a golf course?

I don't enjoy a six-hour round anymore than anyone else does, but if a course is packed and the overall pace of play is slow, then it is what it is and all the whining and hand-wringing in the world isn't going to change that no matter what any single group or person does or doesn't do.

It's like people who insist upon weaving from lane to lane during rush hour traffic; there are a hundred cars and trucks ahead and they're all moving at a snail's pace so what are they planning to accomplish? (besides annoying everyone else?)

For me, 4 to 4 1/2 hrs for a round of golf is fine and even 5 hours isn't the end of the world. In fact, I prefer it if it's a tad slow out there because it gives me time to think.

Like I've said many times before, no one on their death bed ever said that they wished they'd spent less time on the golf course.

You have to understand that what is perfect for some is not for others. What I do not get is why does someone that likes to be out there for long periods of time (general, not specific to anyone) will not let people play through. I dont like to play slow. I have a fast setup, and no practice swings. Anything over 4 hours is not fun for me. Why should I have to wait for people that are slow anymore than you should have to speed up for people that are fast.

However the easy solution is that if someone wants to play slow, they let the faster group ahead if there is room. a four and a half hour round is roughly 15 minutes per hole. That seems extremely excessive to me personally even with a foursome. But on a slow day it happens. A 5 hour round is way too slow if you ask me.

Why do things that are enjoyable and for leisure have to take long periods of time? Movies can be too long, so can anything else. Golf as well. I have a busy life and other things to do. It does not mean I like the game any less.
