I have played golf with women many times. What has that got to do with playing by the rules?
I play with women frequently and by and large they putt everything out. No gimmes. I admire that.

PS: I would like to clarify one thing. While I play by the rules, I do make the OB exception during casual rounds, i.e., not going back to the tee-box to re-tee as that just slows down play for the groups behind (unless you know your tee shot went OB, thus hitting three off the tee).

Also, I'm sure I don't know all the rules to the letter and have probably violated my share out of pure ignorance.

Exactly. Women or at least the ones I play golf with follow the rules all the time.

Well, from my experience, women don't follow the rules any more stringently than men do. One other thing, I don't think most golfers know every rule and many times they are broken unintentionally.

I don't think it's a big deal. I just play golf for fun and many times don't even keep score.

I can't say they follow all the rules all the time, but they do seem to insist on putting out.

I like the rules of golf. It's a bit like solving a puzzle out there. If I can't find the rule in my rule book on the course - I look it up when I get home for next time. Do I care if you follow them - nope, but I'm going to.

If there's a chance a ball might be lost or OB, hit a provisional ball. You don't have to go back if the first ball is gone, and you'll be within the rules.

Have you ever hit what you thought was a good tee shot and you were unable to find your ball? I have, and after looking for my ball for a few minutes and people waiting to tee off behind me I am not going back and hitting another one.

It's not happening on a busy course on a weekend.

So long as the person is having fun & isn't hurting anyone, why should any of us care how they play the game? I'm not about to tell them they aren't playing "real golf".

To myself that's a bit of an uppity attitude & doesn't help to grow the sport.

Dyna - I think Bake was speaking for himself and his feelings about his own game. I understand what he's saying. I've had to force myself to ignore the rules recently when I played with a friend who followed none of them. I admit - it was fun, but it took a lot for me to play that way.
