After not playing too much lately my boss has signed us up for a 2 man "best ball" tourney today at Kiskiack Golf Course. It is a great course I hope my boss has some strong shoulders because he'll likely be carrying me today, haha. I'll post the results later.

Okay, quick summary because I know Diane wants to know.... The 18th hole didn't work out for me as I hit the first ball thin and right in to the water, my second tee shot carried the water off the tee and went in the water over the bunker(lateral hazard) and I took my drop(5th shot) and was lucky to make an 8 on the hole!!! I played great on the front and shot a 3 over 39, but my partner was in pocket for the first 4 holes on the back and I hit a few wayward shots. As a team we shot 36 (even par) on the front and a 46(10 over) on the back for an 82 for our team score. It was a "better ball" tourney meaning that we played our own ball, recording the better score of the two. I shot an 86(39-47 ugggh) for the day, which means I pretty much carried my partner all day.
The best part was that it was a charity event and we raised money to buy a kid a starter set of clubs, shoes, tees, balls, hats...ect. And presented it to the kid at the end of the tourney! I also had the longest drive on the 7th hole by 20 yards, only to find out that the longest drive on that hole was for the tournament earlier in the day and not for ours..... |

When people post about playing - I always want to know, not so much the score, but if you had a good time. It sounds like you did. I also have to say that we got some great goodie bags! They gave us all a real nice polo shirt when we checked in, then in our carts there was a soda, a bottle of water, 2 packs of nabs, a bag of chips, a granola bar, a sleeve of Bridgestone E5+, a dozen 3" tees, a 2 pack of Top Flite "Freaks", a Johnny Walker divot tool/ball marker, a golf towel, a Stoli visor, a 2009 rule book and finally a Cigar! They also had dinner for us afterwards and gave away 4 golf clubs for the closest to the pin on the par 3's, clubs were a Mizuno driver, a Vokey wedge, a Ping putter and an Exoticts putter. Top three places got paid a little $$$ I could play in a tourney like that every week! |

I was going to play in a charity scramble two weeks ago, but it was rained out. We just donated our entry fees to the charity. I think everyone did, but I was disappointed - I was looking forward to playing. The only thing left this season is a fun outing the Saturday before Thanksgiving - not for charity, but it's still fun.

Scrambles are fun I think. It is always interesting to see who can do what. Sometimes you can't really tell. The guy who shanks the driver off the first tee just might be the best putter in the group, for example. Or sometimes you have one guy that the only thing he can do is bomb it out there 300 yards down the middle but then he hits the SW from 100 yards and leaves it 40 yards left of the green. You see it all out there.
