I have a 7 wood and a 9 wood. The 9 I do not carry in my bag much any longer now that I have a 3 hybrid, the 9 I liked to use around greens for chip and run if the ball says is a couple feet or less of the edge of the green. I can do the same with my hybrid I swing the club just like I would putter but with the face angle it gives a good bounce and roll and I think better control than say a wedge. It does take a lot of practice to use a 9 or hybrid for chip and run shot.
