Will dedicate at least one basket to the driver - and a lot of those, I try to learn to KILL the ball !
![]() the rest I divvy up to the other clubs, no particular order, hmmm, well wedgies and fairway clubs more than the middle clubs. but now that I have about 250 used balls.... I will do some of the short work at home. |

Generally, I will hit a few 9 irons softly to loosen up and establish my tempo. The I do one of two things. I will either hit a couple of shots with almost every club, starting with the 9, then maybe a 4, then 7, then PW, then driver...no particular order, but I don't pound one shot after the other with the same club. I try to keep moving around in the set.
If I have a round coming up at a course I have played before, I will play the round on the range. If the first hole is a driver hole, I will hit driver and try to recreate the shot I need for that hole, fade or draw, etc. Then I guess what I would hit based on the drive I just hit. I move through the course until I finish or run out of balls. I usually run out of balls... One funny thing is that most people seem to hit their wedges to establish a tempo....I am much better of to hit driver to get my tempo down. |

I'll start with full swings wth the SW because it's probably the heaviest club in my bag, then the PW, then the 8, 6, 4 irons, then my 5 wood, then my 3 wood on the mat and on a short tee, then about 10 swings with the driver. I'll finish up the bucket trying to put balls on the 50yd green or the trash cans in front of them.

Two different scenarios as follows:
Practice on the range: Warm up with 6 or 7 iron...usually hitting it softly to about 100-120 yards trying to find my sequence. Some days are better then others and some days I spend 90% of the bucket on this. If I find it, then I start working with other clubs through-out the bag but go back to the 7 iron if I loose my sequence and start over...can you tell that I am currently working on sequencing??? Warm up for a round or tournament: Warm up with 6 or 7 iron...usually hitting it about 100-120 yards trying to find my sequence. After 10-20 balls I will start hitting full shots to see what swing I have for that day. I will hit a few 3 irons (maybe off a tee) to warm up the long clubs and finish with a few Drivers prior to going to the first tee (if that is the club I will be using on the 1st tee)... ![]() |

I always warm up with SW, with slow easy swings or half 2/3 swings, since its the heaviest therefore stretches out all of the core swing muscles slowly.
Then I go up every other one, one range day its the driver, odd's and the PW, the next time I go to the range it's the 3W, even's and the GW. This way I hit the wedges and all my iron's fairly evenly. I play good lies, divots, etc always hitting at something to gauge my accuracy, dispersion, consitency etc. Then when I feel I have practiced enough full swings I chip/punch/flop with various clubs for a while then top it off with some crazy shot shaping swings with whatever club I felt I either need work on or the one I hit the best. If I am feeling extra studious then I play a couple holes tee to green in my head using made up fairway's and landing spots etc. Even though it sounds like a TON of balls I use only three (sometimes four if I am goofing off) bags of 50-58ish and take no more than 2 hrs or so...........this also includes putting for at LEAST 30 minutes, sometimes even more, MUCH MUCH more. ![]() |

I always hit my PW first. I hit about 5 - 10 balls, taking lots of practice swings between, 4- - 5. This gets me pretty warmed up, and it also sets a slow tone for the practice session. I find that I have a much better session at the range when I take my time.
After PW, I hit my 7 / 6, then jump to my 4 wood / hybrid / driver before hitting the long irons. I don't hit my long irons consistently, so I always need to feel confident about my swing before hitting them. That's why I try to get into a good groove before hitting them. If i have a couple bad swings with the long irons, I'll switch back to the PW and swing until I feel confident again. Being a beginner, I find that confidence makes such a difference in how well I strike the ball --> that's why I probably end up hitting PW with 30% of my range balls even as I'm trying to figure out my long irons :P |
