Default John Daly show
I can't believe TGC will be airing a show about John Daly. What a waste of air space. Guess they don't have anything else to fill space up with

John Daly's new life to become Golf Channel reality show

2006 Buick OpenGRAND BLANC, Mich. – Really, John Daly insists he’s not a beer-swilling, trouble-making guy anymore.

Daly said Wednesday an upcoming reality show on the Golf Channel, featuring him, will provide a glimpse of his new-and-improved boring life.

“I’m more laid back,” he said in an interview with the Associated Press between puffs of a cigarette in the parking lot of Warwick Hills, the site of this week’s Buick Open. “It won’t have the hustle and bustle as the last show.”

The Golf Channel had a 13-part series “The Daly Planet” in 2006, showcasing his wild life.

The first of at least eight episodes of the yet-to-be-named reality show will air in early 2010.

“I think ‘Out of the Rough’ is the perfect title,” Daly said.

The popular player said he’s focusing on his golf career, which has been marked by the highs of winning the British Open and PGA Championship and lows created by problems outside the ropes.

Daly returned to the PGA Tour earlier this year after a six-month suspension, the second time the Tour has suspended him for unbecoming conduct. Two other times, he agreed to sit out to get his life in order.

He has been to alcohol rehab twice, has been married three times and wrote an autobiography that was as much about drinking, sex and gambling as it was about his golf.

“I haven’t had a drink in a while,” Daly said.

Golf Channel senior producer Al Pollock, who has known Daly since 1994 and has been with him during filming of the upcoming show, said he hasn’t seen Daly have a sip of alcohol in a long time.

“He’s a different person,” Pollock said. “This show will not be as crazy as the last show. But it’s going to show a different side – the real side – of John Daly. He’s lived through a lot of peaks and valleys. Now, he’s got his stuff together.

“He’s more serious, especially about golf. He’s lost a lot of weight.”

Daly said he has lost 81 pounds since February, when he ballooned to 286 pounds. His next goal is to shave strokes off his game so that he can add to his total of five PGA Tour victories.

“I’m practicing a lot and I’m working hard, but it’s not paying off yet,” he said. “I’m real frustrated with my putting.”

The day before competing in the first round of the Buick Open, a crew planned to follow him as he recorded a song he wrote at Kid Rock’s studio and performed mundane tasks such as ironing the colorful pants he would sport at Warwick Hills.

“I’m still having fun, but I’m more serious,” Daly said. “I’m finally the guy so many people have wanted me to be for so many years.”

His show will be better than those non golfing infomercials they tend to show a lot of. Plus, like him or not. Behind Woods, and Mickleson you'd be hard pressed to find a 3rd pro golfer that can draw fans through the gates better then JD can. Like him or hate him, he is still good for golf. TGC is marketed as a 24 hour premium golf channel on my cable package, and on a satellite package I have. They should be showing 24hrs of golf.

I see where JD shot an 88??. I think I could played him a good match today. It's been a long time since I had to mark a "10" on my score card. But's that's JD

hehe, dont forget, a certain Mr. A. Palmer hit a 12 on a hole in his day.
and a Mr. A. Kim had a fun time swinging the club not long ago..
I give Daly a thumb up for playing the round and not WD. (i.e. quitting)

Daly has a history of some incredibly high rounds though. He does it often. He didn't walk off the course this time but he has in the past. (Didn't he just last year leave at the turn and not even inform anyone?)

No way is Daly 205 lbs! He might be 260+ right now.

I am reading on other forums that some of the talking heads on TGC are saying JD should not receive anymore exemptions so that others, more deserving, can get into these tournaments. I don't think those "other, more deserving" players will draw the same number of fans that JD does. So you have TGC programmers giving him a show, and their announcers saying he should be grounded for poor play.

Where is the proof that JD draws fans anymore? He may very well be a big draw still, I just don't see it though.

I'm just waiting for him to mess up. Again. I'm not thinking it will be all that long of a wait.

Unfortunately, JD has lost a lot of the fan base he had with all his antics over the years. I really was surprised they hung on as long as they did. I have seen him often since my old home course was where the Razorbacks played and practiced. JD would come back each year to host a charity tournament, even after the Razorbacks moved to a new course, JD kept coming back. I have never talked to him, just seen him around the course and I played the course he bought in Dardanelle, AR. He had a house beside one of the fairways and I would see him chipping in his backyard sometimes.

Too bad that he has such an addictive personality. He just cannot seem to do anything in moderation.
