Someone purchased a mushaf with Urdu translation. I happened to notice on the cover that the translation was done by Imam Ahmed Raza Khan "Barelvi". Thanks to SF, I have heard the term 'barelvi' and what it allegedly entails. However, I'm not sure if the "Barelvi" at the end of this name may actually be a part of his name or does it mean that he is "a" barelvi.

Most importantly, should I ask the person who purchased this mushaf to return it and exchange for a translation by someone else, or is the translation by Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi considered to be genuine like any other translation by a qualified scholar? I just don't want the person to start reading this translation if it is supposed to have any 'issues' with it.

Yes, there are issues with the way Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi translated the Qur'an. He has inserted his own beliefs into the translation instead of giving a direct translation. For example, the sentence - قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ - is mentioned a couple of times in the Qur'an. It literally means, "Say 'Verily I am a man like you'." Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi mistranslates it as following, "Say you, 'apparently in facial outlook of a man, I am like you'," which makes people who don't know Arabic and who don't have access to other translations to believe that Barelvi aqeedah is in the Qur'an.

In Urdu, the sentence which is found in surah Kahf says the following:

, this brother went and exchanged the Mushaf for a different one from the place where he bought it. He briefly explained the issue with the translation to the (presumably) owner of the (Islamic) bookstore, and then politely said something to the effect that they should be more careful with what kind of books they are carrying in their store, as most people do not even know what "barelvi" etc means and they could be buying a book/translation with 'issues' and never know it. The response of the brother from the bookstore was something like "well we have people of all types of aqeedahs coming in to our store so of course we will carry all types of books, it's the buyer's responsibility to check what they are buying and if it fits their views & aqeedah, not our responsiblity to tell them". So that was that.

I think you are not aware of ahmad raza khan .

You can just a tree by its fruits , unfortunately looking at the fruits -> barelwi's u can judge how ahmad raza khan was.

No it is not, Kanz ul iman By Alahazrat Imam ahmed raza khan is way better than your thanvis translation.
There are many translations better than thanvis. such as maarif ul quran, zia ul quran etc.
