Like Hadhrat Noor has stated, you do now need to have wudhu for holding a tasbeeh, but
it is better to be in the state of wudhu, so that more barakat descend upon you and you feel like 'roohaniyat' Wudhu us only needed for holding a Quran Karim, or a book/page that has more ayaat on it than other writing, like for example if you have a tafseer, and it has more tafseer than aayaat you can hold it, but you cant touch the ayat. And if it has more ayaat than tafseer you cannot hold it. Other than that you can hold anything without wudhu, even hadeeth books, but it is against adab to hold any islamic book without wudhu. |

yip good to be in a state of wudhu all the time. but akhi there is no base in sharia' for having wudhu to hold a tasbih-so stay clear of an intention in this regard. the tasbih is just to facilitate your counting, so its like using a calculater to add up all your adhkaar, there should be no deeni attachment.
