Default Is competition in the field of Deen permissible?
When I mean competition, I don't mean to bring the other person low. But rather a competition in the eyes of Allah Subhanahua Ta'ala?

For example, my mom yesterday was talking about her friends son who is my friend too. He's become religious and she was saying what a good kid he became etc and MashAllah thats good and I am happy for him. (even tho he leaned towards salafi aqeedah, but still good MashAllah).

So when my mom said that, I didn't feel jelous or anything but I had this thing in me that said to me, make your mom proud too. Even though I do pray, read Quran etc.

So for a while I have been wanting to start memorizing the Quran. Now, obviously I have always wanted to do this for Allah and I still do and I always renew my intentions.
But can I also do it so my mom makes me proud and to compete with my brother(friend) in the eyes of Allah? as a positive thing? Not to bring anyone lower or think of my self as higher?

JazkaAllah

brother, until you receive other replies, you might want to use the search function to see if you can find similar thread on the forum. For example, here is a very recent thread where you might find useful: http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/show...ht=#post728817
