I guess it should be absolutely normal to carry with oneself a weapon at the time, wa Allahu a'lam..

Not necessarily; if it was for utility purposes I'm sure a small blade would serve, but I've never read or heard that it was the practice of the Arabs to carry around weapons or swords in their daily life. Does anyone know anything about this?
