Default Help me prove to a brother music/movies are haram...

My respected brothers and sisters,

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but a great friend/brother of mine (who is starting to practice the deen, ), has asked me to help him find proof from Quran/Hadith which deal with the permissibility (or lack thereof) of music/movies/TV in Islam (TV as we know it, not stuff which is obviously halal such as real Islamic programming).

His thinking currently is that it's understandable that music & movies with graphic language/scenes would not be permissible, however he's thinking that as long as the music is 'clean' of derogatory language and the movies/TV programming do not contain graphic elements, it should be OK. As we all know, even a "family friendly" TV show/movie in the Western world contains elements which are forbidden (such as uncovered women, free mixing of girls/boys men/women, hugging/kissing, etc)... so one really has to just block it all out altogether.

He doesn't have much access to scholars to ask stuff in person so just like many of us he resorts to searching for answers online... and he says all he's found regarding music/movies is differences between scholars where some say it's allowed, some say it's not, some say as long as you're careful what you're listening to/watching, etc.

I personally understand that music pollutes the heart & soul and do not intentionally listen to any at all, unless I happen to be in a situation where it's unavoidable, such as a public place... in which case I just don't pay attention to it or there have been times where I've pulled out my earphones and put on Quran recitation to block out the music and soften my heart at the same time. Same with movies & TV shows... completely blocked out, . Allah has blessed me with this understanding and I would like to help some of my friends/brothers reach the same type of understanding, .

So, I need all of your help to produce some website links/YouTube videos which speak clearly about the permissibility or non-permissibility of music/movies/TV from an Islamic perspective while citing Quran & Hadith.

Walaikum Salam wr wb

Here is a lecture by Sheikh Kamal El Mekki about music, he refers to Quran, Hadith, and logic to explain why Music is haram:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RthlUOYkI7M

Also see the tafseer of Surat Luqman (ayat 6)

All four major madahib have consensus on the fact that music is haram (there is no difference of opinion amung the scholars).

Someone else may have more information iA. I don't know about movies as a whole, but if there are scenes of zina, private acts between married individuals, people showing there awra, and music those things are haram to look at/listen to. And Allah knows best. May Allah reward you for doing what you can to enjoin the good and forbid the evil.

sister AlHannah20, I have only gotten to listen to the first few minutes of the lecture so far but it seems like it might be exactly what I was looking for.

I will listen to the whole thing myself then pass it on to the brother I was talking about.

again and .

Mufti Muhammad Ibn Adam al-Kawthari's fatwa:
http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.a...=1786&CATE=142

There was also another detailed fatwa by Mufti Ismail Moosa Sahab, but al-Inaam website is down and I can't seem to find his fatwa elsewhere..
