Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah
As the title suggests, this is the 3rd part in a series of questions relating to Shafi'i fiqh. Alhamdulillah, I have benefitted much from the responses by the Shafi'i elders on this forum. InshaAllah, may this benefit continue. Today's question is not hypothetical as my local masjid is hanafi. Just some background: Hanafis -> The sajdah of forgetfulness is done after the salaams. Malikis/Hanbalis -> The sajdah is done before/after salaams depending on whether one ommitted/added from/to the salah. Shafi'is -> The sajdah is done before the salaams. In the commentary of the Guiding Helper (Maliki text book), I came across the following: Footnote 1297: Latecomers should not prostrate prostrations of forgetfulness that the imam does after the salam along with him. Rather, they should immediately stand up after the imam's first salam and start making up the missed parts. Then after their own terminating salam, they should prostrate these prostrations (or they should prostrate before if they missed a stressed sunnah while they were making up their missed prayer (refer to footnote 1012)). If such latecomers intentionally prostrate prostrations of forgetfulness with the imam after his salam, their prayer will become invalid Question: > Latecomer: If I am praying behind a hanafi imam and he does sajdah after salaams, do I avoid it and stand up to make up my missed rak'ahs? [as per above] > Not a latecomer: Do I just follow the imam as per usual? Jazak Allah Khair Wassalaam |

From Mughni al-Muhtaj:

I can only draw some conclusions which Sh. Godilali can verify inshaAllah: > وقيل لايسلم إذا سلم الإمام بل يصبر, فإذا سجد سجد معه. هذا إذا كان موافقا This is when you are not a latecomer. You don't say the first salaam with the Imam. But you make sujood with him when he does it. And then when he does his last salaam, you do salaam with him. > أما المسبوق فيخرج نفسه ويتم لنفسه ويسجد آخر صلاته I am not too sure about this one! But I will try. If you are a latecomer, you "exit" and do sujood at the end of your own salaah. I don't know if "exit" means you stand up straight away. EDIT @ 17.00: Just checked with Imam Ahmed Saad via facebook. In the case of a masbooq: > You don't do salaam/sajdah-as-sahw with Imam > You wait until until the imam finishes his salah and then get up to do your own. > You do sajdah as-sahw before you finish your salah |

Another question InshaAllah: As per the following fatwa on qibla.com [http://spa.qibla.com/issue_view.asp?...2487&CATE=239] 1. Dry filth comes in contact with dry pure substance: no affect = no transfer of filth. 2. Dry filth comes in contact with moist clean substance: no affect = no transfer of filth. 3. Dry filth with dripping (such that at least a couple of drops can be squeezed out) clean substance: some affect (smell for example) = filth transferred, must be cleaned. *The reverse is also true. [Al-Hadiyah al-Ala'iya] Does the above hold true for the Shafi'is as well? |
