Some people in the west (who have no love for the government like Ed Griffin) have suggested that the US administration has no intention of ending the war on terror globally. They want endless war because it keeps Americans at home distracted, it gives the government more power (using the threat of terrorism as a pretext), and it keeps their economy going. If the government stopped its wars and spending all this money on weapons....the money would go towards social projects like schools, hospitals etc. and that would make Americans too comfortable....American elites would lose their elitist power.....so wars help maintain the hierarchy and inequality in America. i shared it, and one of my friends who is a grad student studying econ in Spain rubbished it. he said it was too simplistic and it was like laymen talking about deep fiqh. so i do not agree with this premise that US is benefiting by 'making wars'. it has withdrawn from Iraq and in sha Allah from Afg in 2014. it hasn't won in both countries. american and other experts have labelled iraq war as a disaster for US and allies and a victory for AQ. not only they now have a separate state in Iraq called ISI they also gained huge supporters because of iraq war and also destroyed american image. why would US withdraw when they could make more money by continuing the war even if they were losing? they could have started an insurgency in Iraq using Blackwater/academi and then kept their troops 'employed' by fooling the world. and hence more money. or simply continue fighting AQ in there by pumping more soldiers and more weapons. why retreat? the rest of the world is a puppet to the US. it does what it wants because the trading is in dollars. same is with afghanistan. so the point you are making: that any war against US benefits US; is incorrect sorry to say. |
