Thanks Dr. Ghen. I think this member asked the right person!
Hi Dr. Ghen, There is a lot of buzz about anti aging treatments and one of the members asked this: Suzanne Somers in her latest book talks about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and how it is something all older men and women should be taking. Is this something that each individual would need to have personal advice on or is there a general rule of thumb as to what combination of natural supplements will benefit us? Dr. Ghen's reply: I wrote the only textbook for physicians on compounding pharmaceutics which bio-identical hormone replacement was part. Bio-identical means in the same ratio as the human. Previously, estrogen replacement was performed with estrogens extracted from pregnant horse urine. The three major estrogens that a woman requires are out of proportion when compared to the horse. And yes, one other thing the horse has two xenoestrogens meaning hormones that are totally foreign to the human. The only way you know how to put these hormones and others back into the system safely is to measure them. The 24 Hr. Urine collection is the new gold standard. It gives a dynamic look at the hormone production in the body. Unfortunately, the natural over the counter neutriceuticals don?t work well. Find an expert in Natural (Made from Yam or Soy) hormone replacement therapy, so that the result you want will be the result you get.
