Default Curious about everyone's thoughts on this link.
Hey everyone, I've been checking in to this forum in order to learn something new everyday for the last two weeks, but this is the first time that I've posted anything. I've lost approx 14 pounds over that time span and have about 15 more to go. This is the first method of eating that I've ever attempted that 1) works in harmony with the time I spend in the gym to accomplish actual weight loss, AND 2) doesn't make me feel grouchy because my stomach is growling all day. Actually it's just the opposite, I feel my resistance to stressful situations has heightened. That's something I did not expect, it's a very pleasant surprise.

Anyway back to my thread, I m a big Men's Health Magazine fan and I was curious as to their thoughts on Atkins. It seems for the most part that they endorse this way of eating. The one curious part of the article that I read was a section where they suggested having a "cheat day" where you ate luxury foods not included in the diet. Their reasoning is that "It's how you eat most of the time, not every single meal, that matters,". I was curious as to everyone's thoughts on this. The site link is:

Thanks again for everyone's tips and input, it has helped my transition to this method of eating tremendously.

It depends from person to person and it depends on what you cheat with.

FOR INStANCE, if I cheat on pure carbs I sometimes go way way overboard. Doughnuts, cookies etc... very hard to fill up, you want more and more plus you feel like CRAP the next day.

But sometimes I will eat a lot of all-natural peanut butter with sugar free jelly and my appetite goes way down the next day plus I haven't eaten too many carbs really and I can stop it doesn't go on for days and days.

Ifr I'm going to cheat, I always find a way to have my cake and eat it to so to speak... instead of pizza I will make my own on low-carb tortillas, that kind of thing.

If you can handle a cheat day once in a while, my personal opinion is why not... but there are lots of foods I just say NO to no matter what because I really can't eat just one....

From what I understand, Atkins doesn't advise regular cheat days. He says that constantly switching from fat-burning to carb-burning will eventually slow your metabolism.

So, while it's not advisable to do it every week, I would think it's ok to cheat on occassion.

Of course, I always go way overboard.
