Hi Vanessa... I am actually wondering the same thing, I am working out 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. I am giving myself Sundays off.

I do weights for about 30 minutes every other day and an hour of cardio everyday.

I think its fine. You may not see results on the scale as fast at times but thats only because its just building muscles, but don't get discouraged.. its a good thing... the inches will come off. And I want to keep on working out as much as possible because I don't want anything to sag

Hey I just have a suggestion.
You should not workout 6 days a week you should give you body a rest in between workouts because its only then that your muscles can repair themselves and you get the full effect of your workout. My personal trainer has taught me this along with many other fitness experts. Also I would like to add that you should not workout over 1 hour because them the body starts to release a hormone called Cortisol because the body in under physical stress. Cortisol makes the body store fat and particularly in the tummy and butt area.

Rest is good! Its best not to over do your workouts,
And keep in mine that intense exercise lowers immunity and regular moderate exercise boosts immunity.
If you still feel you MUST workout 6 days a week I would suggest a nice walk or leisure bike ride on your off days.

I know many people are strictly 6 days a week of carido and weights but please do look at the possibility of over training.
I agree. Your body needs to recover for a day after working out. Or you can alternate cardio with weight lifting. The key is not overworking a specific muscle group day in and day out.

Default Exercising while on ATkins...
Is it OK to exercise as much as you can while on Atkins. I recently joined a gym and I do 2 hours a day of cardio exercises. When I did ATkins before I never exercised and lost the weight. I'm scared for some freak reason if I begin to exercise this time my weight will not go down is that possible?

Hi Vanessa,

Congrats on losing your weight. I am new to the site and Atkins and have been on induction for 9 days now and i have not lost a single pound. I am 135lbs and need to lose at least 30lbs. I am in ketosis but i read before i statrted that exercise was not compulsory. I am pleased to hear that you did not exercise and still lost weight. is that right?

I dont MIND exercising but i just dont have THAT much time as I work a 12 hour shift and am dog tired by the time i get home at 9pm.

Would you say exercise is a MUST?

Thanks.

Hi there Noush. I must say this time exercising I believe has helped a lot. Sometimes my weight stays the same for a few days even 2 weeks (the most) but in inches I can see that they are coming off. I don't believe its a must but I believe it does help out a lot. Trust me once you start you don't want to stop you'll feel guilty not doing it anymore. If you miss a day. It is hard though if your doing a 12 hour shift. I'm a stay at home mom so its a lot easier for me.

Hi Vanessa, thanks for the advice...hahahaha..I was just trying to get out of doing exercise!! God i am so bad!

Ok, i wil aim to do 30 minutes as a start. I was walking for an hour 3 times a week upuntil last week but unfortunately the rain has not stopped for a single second since then. Welcome to a British Summer!

Thanks again.

I am extremely busy as well, so I started getting up earlier to exercise everyday, and it had made a world of difference.

Not only am I getting more fit, but my stress level has gone down considerably. I am now to the point where I need (and want!) to exercise because it makes me feel so good. My advice is to start slow and simple and to be consistant, that is the key. Pretty soon you will be amazed at what you can do!

Good luck!

My experience is that it takes some time to adjust, but given proper amounts of rest the body learns to adapt for endurance work. Not a problem at all for me.

I have also done powerlifting in the past whilst on Atkins, and suffered no major ill effects. I just increased carb intake and made sure not to exhaust energy stores before hand.

Lifting is a little more difficult because "fast burst" energy is required, but there are athletes that can get away with lifting heavy whilst on low carb diets.

I didn't do too badly myself.
