The top number is the amount of force against the heart when it's contracting, the bottom number is when it's "at rest". It's best to take your BP after you've been resting for a bit.

There's a big range for normal but "optimal" is about 120/80.

that is not high imho

is marginally high and could easily be due to being uncomfortable at the docs office

in any event one reading means little, take it 3-4 times a day for a few weeks then work out an average

Just close your eyes and focus on breathing all relaxed like.

When they do ours, we can see the machine and it shows the BP and heart rate. I just try to breathe slow and even and keep my heart rate down. It helps to focus on it. If you wear a watch or can hear a clock ticking, use that to focus on breathing slow.

take a couple of deep breaths and breathe out slowly

then just try to breathe calmly until the testing is done

I have white coat syndrome also.

That BP looks pretty normal at least for middle age people. I always thought the hi one should be under 130 and the low under 80

my worst was 160/105

got it all under control now though

Seriously, stress and diet are a part of the issue. I know when my father drinks ( alcohol ) and stressed out his BP shoots right up..

Mine is a little high but still normal. I blame my diet, other drivers and the fact that hockey season has started.

I haven't had my blood pressure checked in 3 years. I always wondered what it meant when they'd tell me what it was. I never knew if it was good or bad.

Your bp really is nothing to be worried about. Did you look at the link I supplied?
