Default How big of a deal is the body lotion thing?
I don't fully understand why you cannot use oils on your body. I suffer from severe eczema and dry skin from hypothyroid, and need to use lots of almond and coconut oil to not feel and look miserable. Do you guys just go around flaky for the whole diet? When can you use normal body products again?

Can someone explain exactly why this is forbidden??

Dr Simeon explained why in Pounds and Inches. Have you read our manual yet? http://www.hcgbodyshaper.com/simeon.pdf

You will more than likely have stalls if you use the lotion you just mentioned. Here is another thread (of many) I found using the search feature at the top right of the forum

Are you avoiding lotions during your P2?

I have of course read the manual, and I agree with the methadology and explanations for most of the method. However, the section about cosmetics was lacking, IMO. He basically just says that oils are absorbed into the skin and can cause gain. He doesn't explain why, or offer much else except anecdotes.

I was asking for experiences of those who have done the diet, as to whether or not this actually made a difference. Also, I am wondering if this phenomenon (oil causing weight gain through the skin) is something that happens ALL the time, or just specifically on this diet.

You can put organic cold pressed coconut oil on your body. I react to it though so have been using my moogoo lip balm and I have eczema on my hands so I put some hemp oil on them. I know that if they get too bad I will stop the diet, I can not handle my hands being out of action (which happens often), they get cuts and really itchy so if I can't function then what is the good of the diet? I will take my chances with a bit of oil soaking through my skin if it means I will stick to it. I n phase 2 I also soaked my hands in organic oats and put alovera from the garden on them.

Many people do gain when they use coconut oil on the skin. We have no idea why that it, but it is. You could try mineral oil or one of the non oil lotions on the market. And many many people find their eczema gets better on the protocol, probably because they aren't eating gluten or dairy which is often the cause of the problem in the first place. So you may be fine. And probably the majority of us are hypothyroid and we've gotten through it too by using what is allowed.

Just be very careful not to use food-type oils or lotions, such as coconut, almond or avocado oils. Those are the worst choices on this diet. Baby oil, which is mineral oil, seems to cause fewer problems.

You know, I never thought about that aspect before. Once off P2, will we gain weight just by using oils in our body lotions? If our body absorbs it in P2, wouldn't our body absorb it in P3-P4?

Disclaimer: I used J&J baby oil or Vaseline in my R1, and regular body products in my very short rogue R2, and I didn't see much difference, if any, in my losses.

Ok, I am going to follow the protocol to the exact letter the first time, so the oils will go. I just have to say, though, that petrochemicals such as mineral oil and petroleum jelly are very bad for the skin. They impede the body's ability to remove toxins and will cause clogged pores and probably acne. They also harbor fungus and bacteria, which food oils prevent. I am thinking that aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerin will have to do.

I have NEVER, EVER heard anything about gaining fat through the skin anywhere else, and I have been around the diet and nutrition block a lot. I am genuinely interested in this topic, as to whether or not there is actual scientific research on this. Also, whether it only has to do with this diet or whether it can happen all the time?

Also, what phase are you supposed to be able to add oily cosmetics back in?

Craezie, I believe it is only this diet, not other diets. This plan is very, very strange and oh so sensitive, probably because it isn't a diet, it is a hormone protocol. If you're thinking of it as a diet, you're going to be confused. We do know that Dr. Simeons did a lot of research. We also know he didn't share it with us. He wrote P&I so people would stop bugging him about this plan, but he didn't share every detail of his work with us. And those of us who have done the protocol have learned that he was right about everything, even the things that make no sense.

You can add oils back in P3. In fact, you want to eat lots of fat in P3. That's another thing that makes no sense...if you eat too little in P3, you'll gain weight. If you eat a lot, you won't.

And of course everyone knows that petrochemical oils are not good for you. But that is why they are less harmful to your weight loss on this protocol. They aren't anything your body recognizes. But some people are just completely unwilling to give up their oils and lotions, so if they want to choose one, those are less harmful to the weight loss and stabilization process. Ideally, people would just suffer for a month and avoid the lotions.
