What is the best BRAND of protein shakeS (or whey) to use on VLCD? (p2) I am on p2 and looking to use as a protein supplement every day if I can for lunch or dinner. I know you can use Jay Robb, but they are pricey and one of them has egg whites in it. Has anyone used MRM Whey Pumped? They have online and I heard it is good for p2.
http://www.vitacost.com/MRM-Whey-Pumped-Rich-Vanilla What about adding all natural/organic PB or almond butter? I really am wanting it for the shake, but I am sure its a no. Has anyone tried it on vlcd? I am only on day 10 and still have a month basically...I am already getting sick of meat and salad. If you have a certain brand and flavor you love please let me know! Thanks so much! |

Target has a good protein shake that seems to have the lowest sugar/carbs that I could find. Here is a link:
http://www.target.com/p/Pure-Protein...s/-/A-12634508 I found out about it from a bunch of people on this site. Here is the nutritional information that I found, interestingly, on the Livestrong website: http://www.livestrong.com/article/30...-pure-protein/ |

JayRobb has a good tasting protein shake that is very nutritious. I am not sure if it has a lot of sugar, you would have to check that. I would recommend getting one with 4 or less grams of sugar. I am not aware of any protein shakes that are completely sugar free. Some use natural sugars which are fine.

What is the best BRAND of protein shakeS (or whey) to use on VLCD? A big part of this diet is about resetting your relationship with food and seeing it primarily as fuel, rather than taste. Being sick of meat and salad is a good thing, so I would suggest just accepting that and rechanneling your energies into something else. Sorry, a tad off topic there.... Back to your question. With all the preservatives, high cost and questions on what they put into a pre-made product I would simply make my own protein shake. Not only will it be tailor-made to your own specific needs/tastes, but it is a wonderful routine to be in after hCG is but a distant memory long past the range of your rear mirror. Just a few musings from one who has tripped over many of the pitfalls in this diet, disregard if it doesn't apply to your situation ![]() |

What flavor of JR have you tried? Have you used PB in any of it and how many times have you used a shake as a meal? Thanks |

@alcoholswab, I happen to love ur musings! Both entertaining and informative ( pretty hard to do
![]() I've been using the OL Pea protein vanilla shakes, with I think great results. I've been pretty much vegan for over 5 years and this one has no animal products/whey. Its only 105 cals 25 grams protein and 4 alcohol sugar - whatever that means!?! Sweetened w. stevia and xylitol. I just throw 4 strawberries or chopped apple and ice and about 1 1/2 cups water. Sometimes I'll chuck in a handful of spinach. And I love it!! That makes it easier for me to eat a different veggie other than my usual lettuce w. ACV. The price at the Vitamin shop is like $35. But amazon has it for $21. It come in like a 28 serving size container. I also found some pumkin protein shake product organic low/no carbs and sugar and not as expensive as the JR brands. I think I'll be trying that one too. For some reason I started to worry about eating the same protein meal after meal day after day! So- I tried to use chicken once but ended up even more grossed out trying to cut extra fat and got it under my nails !! Then I bought some pre boiled shrimp for $15!!!?!?? Because it was already cooked I subtracted 1 oz from the allowance just to make sure I didn't go over. ( Have no idea if it made a difference tho!) And it wasn't as gross as the raw chicken but I ended up putting WAY too many spices on it while boiling them again. So it wasn't very good. *maybe u can tell I don't cook much* ![]() I totally agree with Alcoholswab about the diet being about fuel and not flavor! Awesome concept I think I'll try to grasp - instead of learning to cook during this stage in the game! Shannon Miamidecor@yahoo.com |

I used to see a body builder/nutritionist and those folks say Gold Standards Hydro whey is best for muscle building. I love MetRX whey Isolate in strawberry it is delicious and 1 scoop is 110 cal, 2 grams fat, 2 grams carbs, 22 grams protein. The dietdoc.com that I used sent me 2 tums of something called ultra lean protein but it is 1 scoop 140 cal 8 g fat, 5 grams carb and 11 g protein so I havent open either tub. i checked with the site and they said fine.

Its not on protocol, but I have a Jay Robb protein shake every morning on P2. Strawberry flavor, blended with ice, a bit of water and 3-4 strawberries. Yumm! Thick and creamy and delicious. The chocolate is ok too. Haven't tried vanilla.
Jay Robb is sweetened with Stevia btw. Not Splenda, and it's as natural as you will find. Only 4 ingredients I believe. Also, I don't eat the melba/grissini, and don't have a second fruit either. Just protein and green veggies for lunch and dinner. The morning shake keeps me very full until 1 or 2 pm, and took care of my evening cravings as well. |

Im sure this isnt on any protocol but it would be nice ... but what about herbalife? Tastes great. I also have a product called P2...a peanutbutter in powdered form with a drastic reduction of fat and calories. And to take it to the next level there is the P2 but with chocolate!! Ihope I may be able to use this again one day!!
