Any suggestions on a decent protein bar that would be readily available in a common store? I am in P4 but have been eating primarily P3 style with the occasional beer, Flat Out, or slice of Ezekiel bread.
I eat chocolate delight after dinner every night but would love something sweet in the afternoon too if possible. I remember doing LA Weight Loss and they had me eating two of their chocolate protein bars per day and it really helped keep my cravings at bay. Any made with stevia? Trying to avoid artificial sweeteners. |

I like Lara bars. They are only fruit and nuts. You can pronounce every ingredient and I don't feel like there is any "junk" in them. However, they are high in carbs (fruit) and lower in protein. So, I use them as a snack, not as a meal replacement. You can get them at Target, Walmart, Trader Joes and Whole Foods.
I've also tried Quest bars. They have more protein and fewer carbs, but you can't get them in stores. I ordered a box from their website. Hope that helps. |

i think the quest bars are about as good as it gets, for high protein, low carbs and high fiber. they do use splenda for a sweetener, but you have to use something... i thought they were pretty good but there are only 2 flavors.
the lara bars are good but only if you're not eating a lot of fat, because dates are extremely high in sugar. |

I like Metagenics Peanut Butter Crunch Protein Fusion Bar: http://www.metagenics.com/products/a.../ProteinFusion. My doctor's office carries it. Go to their site & search for someone in your area who carries it.
Provides 20 grams of protein. Contains only 3 grams of glucose impact carbs. Contains only 1 gram of sugar. Supplies 8 grams of fiber—32% of the recommended daily intake. Found this recipe in the Fall 2008 of Clean Eating:
Peanut Butter Fudge Bars- serves 4 4 scoops chocolate protein powder 2/3 cup flax meal 4 tbsp. peanut butter ( guess I should try almond butter ![]() 1/4 cup water stevia to taste Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Just keep stirring, it will come together into a blob. If not, a little bit more water is okay 1 tbsp at a time. Divide into 4 equal portions, and wrap each portion in plastic wrap. Form into a "bar" or just a log shape. Store in the fridge. Next time I will probably add some chopped nuts and dried apples. My husband loved them. |

I'm a fan of the Metagenics peanut butter crunch fusion bar, too, even in P2. I use it very sparingly, though, just slicing a 1/4 inch piece or two for a taste of sweetness after my spicy chili, for instance. The clinic where I get my HCG sells them, with the caveat that you don't want to depend on them a lot during P2. I wanted "emergency" food for times when I haven't been able to prepare. They were also handy when I was on a hike with family and ran out of steam.

i can't stomach the shakes. Dutch Chocolate Rich Vanilla I have the vanilla... it is good by itself. I also add banana or orange extract for a different flavor. I also believe, if I remember correctly, there is a coupon on the iHerb.com site for $5 off your first order. |
