The protocol states 2 liters a day. I don't adhere to the half your body weight thing because I've seen people on here end up in the hospital from drinking too much water and flushing out their electrolytes. I never advise more than 100 oz.
I agree you have to be careful not to drink to much. From my understanding it is half your body weight in liquids a day. Our foods contain liquids so it's not just drinking that much. It's hard to gauge how much water is in food but it gives you a guess instead of just drinking that many ounces. Like watermelon is full of liquid so that would count.
