Default Almond Flour V. Coconut Flour in P3 = Best Place to Order, Etc.
K, so I've GIVEN UP trying to find this stuff here! Even my local health food store doesn't have it! Whole Foods probably does but I am soooo not driving an hour and then another hour back for some flour.

I've done a search on the threads (I want to make that choco cake!) and found this website for coconut flour:

http://www.tropicaltraditions.com//organic_coconut_flour.htm

Is that a good deal or does someone know of better?

AND... which would I have better results with - coconut or almond? I'm sure there is someone here who has tried both

Thanks in advance!

THis gal has all kinds of alternate flour recipes using almond or coconut flour on her website. I got my almond flour from the one she recommended. It was the cheapest I could find and I still have most of it. I made the mug cake nearly every day and I still have tons of the 5 pound bag I have. There are other recipes there of interest too. I never tried the coconut flour. http://www.elanaspantry.com/

I looked it up- to order almond flour (according to Elana's website) it is www.honeyvillegrain.com. She suggests using Tropical traditions for coconut flour and states that coconut flour works better in things like cakes, bread, and muffins. She said the consistency of almond and coconut flour is completely different. Hope this helps! By the way, she doesn't speak too highly of Bob's Mills flours- which are the only ones I spotted in my local health food store- interesting!!

I soooo just read that! So now I am wondering... if I'm going to use this in the "cake" ... should I order coconut flower instead?

Sooooo has anyone tried that cake with coconut flour?

What to do, what to do!

It's probably not permissible on P3 then. I used almond flour because it was P3 friendly and never looked up coconut flour.

Oh wait. lol. Something ain't right here... the nutrition label also says 413 calories per serving.
It's a nutrition label not from North America or something!

That's a lot of calories too. For my mug cake, you only use 4 T of the almond flour though. The almond flour is only 4 carbs per serving (1/4 c) and it's way yummy.

That is interesting nutrition info on the coconut flour. People say they use it all the time and the recipes on Elana's website are supposedly low carbs. I wonder what the deal is?

No her site is gluten free. Many of those recipes are very high in carbs. She just uses alternative flours and particularly likes almond flour which is P3 friendly. I'm doing the 43 day. :-)

amyleigh, I just made the mug cake and OMG I'm in heaven. I could barely finish it - very filling. Also, very yummy. VERY VERY yummy and you will think the $32 is worth it. I will probably end up making this cake anytime -even after I'm done with P3. It's SO GOOD!

Coconut flour is high in fiber so you subtract the amount of fiber to tell you how many carbs are in it. Also Dr. S states no sugar or starches and I believe coconut flour is not starchy, I ate it throughout p3 and did just fine.

I coppied this from another site and thought I would share it, this site also has the bread recipe on it. http://www.formerfatguy.com/food/recipes/coconut-flour-bread/
Coconut flour is gluten free, high in fiber and low in carbohydrates. 5 Tablespoons of coconut flour has 30 grams of carbohydrates to it’s 27 grams of fiber resulting in 3 net carbs. It’s slightly sweet too, so the bread is more of a heavy high protein compliment to a soup rather than for use with sandwich meats. The bread is really good with butter spread on it a cream cheese frosting

tam

edited to change p2 to p3 in my earlier post I said p2. I sure don't want anyone thinking it is ok to eat on p2
