Default To mix veggies or not? Eat unlimited veggies or measure?
Protocol isn't clear as far as amounts.

The more I read the more confused I am.

Some say it's ok to mix and some say eat unlimited veggies.

Common sense tells me to eat unlimited mixed.

Can someone please shed some light on this?

What did you do and succeed?

Thanks!

mixing is not allowed, although we're not sure why- so many people so it and do fine. there is no specific limit, but just make sure that your total doesn't go over 500.

Common sense tells me to eat unlimited mixed. That's what I do. It's not the veggies that undo us on this or any diet.

Do you eat unlimited mixed from the protocol veggies, or mixed as in ALL veggies?

I've been mixing veggies, and eating some that are not on the list at all, but still very low calorie. I have been seeing phenominal results, but I understand that everone is different. The hardest part has been giving up the sweets, but I'm trying a few different combos with Ice and apples with a little sweetener added in, once I get it down i'll be sure to share.

Cj, what off protocol veggies do you use? I mix too, and have been eating more off protocol veggies as well. I love veggies and need variety and color!

Lets see....broccoli, zucchini, peppers (all colors), brussel sprouts.... last night I had a small amount of butternut squash...I think thats it. None have affected my losses---but stupid choices on other things have (like going to have pho). lol.

Haha! Everything you listed there (aside from the squash) is what I was bummed to see missing from the list. I hope I am as fortunate as you are when it comes to adding those in and not losing!

I have been using mushrooms (mushrooms and artichokes are supposed to release chemicals that cancel weight loss, so use in moderation), peppers, zucchini, carrots (in moderation), in addition to the veggies on the list. As long as you don't go over the 500 calories, you can eat as much veggies as you like. Sometimes I will use cottage cheese for salad dressing (taking it out of the protien count) or the Walden Farms fat-free sugar-free salad dressings (Albertson's and WalMart). The Walden Farms BBQ sauce is also a good salad dressing.
Hope this helps!

I eat mushrooms, sqash, broccoli and peppers. I make a large bowl of Pico and dump it on just about anything. I've been thinking of trying some brussel sprouts too. I figure if I keep out all the sugar and oil, and be sensible about it I should be okay.

Wow! Eating veggies not on the protocol! That would so expand our variety! I admit to a certain amount of fear, though as it is going so well.

And what about the cottage cheese? Saw it in a recipe yet it is not in the printed version of the protocol that I have?

Is cottage cheese really okay?

Variety indeed.

Cottage cheese is not on protocol, but folks who are vegetarian use it in place of meat-- as well as Fage.

That I don't know. Try searching the site for "cottage cheese" and see what you can find, or maybe go to the vegetarian thread and ask them. I've only consumed Fage in P2.

I don't eat cottage cheese but I think that 1/2 cup is equal to 1 serving of protein. Can't remember where I saw this but give it a try and see how your body responds.

The list I have says you can have 3/4 cup cottage cheese (ff of course) as a protein. I think it's a modification though. I also love cottage cheese so I'm gonna have to get me some.
