Default Exercise and losing the pot belly.
This discussion is not about obesity. This is about people who are otherwise skinny or of a normal build but have a paunch.

Lots of people have pot bellies. Pretty well everyone who owns one wants to get rid of it but most don't want to do what it takes to get rid of it.

The really amazing thing is that despite looking at it everyday, most people have no idea what a pot belly really consists of.

There are more important reasons for getting rid of a pot than what it looks like. A pot belly says this about you: you do not take an active interest in managing your health. You have no self respect.

The most popular forms of exercise that assist in diminishing a pot are sit-ups, crunches and squats.

Other exercises less associated with pot removal are running, cycling and power walking - a stroll or a slow walk doesn't cut it.

Less well known but very effective is rock or mountain climbing and tree climbing. These last may actually be the most effective pot belly removers. Ever see a fat mountain climber or arborist? Climbing takes a lot of energy and focus. Every muscle in the body is involved because if you fall, you die or generally get injured. Hanging on burns fat fast.

Hiking in the woods and open fields burns a lot of fat too because the ground is uneven. It takes a lot of energy not to fall or trip.

Pot bellies are more than just fat. A pot belly is the visible sign that a person's abdominal tract is stretched out of shape and that all of the person's organs are in a flaccid condition. They're all trying to obey the law of gravity and the size of the pot indicates the degree of success your innards are having at migrating into your shoes. Think of what a stick of celery looks like after being stuck in the fridge for 3 weeks without water or light. It's limp. It's lost its ability to retain water, minerals and other nutrients that help it retain its proper shape. The individual cells are leaking life.

Unlike celery, a human can reverse this condition. The first thing to do is drink water - lots of water. Your cells will thank you. Your organs will thank you. You will have begun to cleanse - a vital step in restoring your toxin ridden self to vitality - see the Isametrix thread for more on how to do this - with or without Isametrix.

The next thing to do is to stop thinking about how you are going to get rid of your pot belly and start thinking about how you are going to get your organs back into the position they belong in.

Pot bellies are an indication of a certain amount of core weight that builds up in between your organs - hard white fat otherwise known and packaged as lard in the supermarket. As core fat acquires mass, it begins to displace your organs. Your organs are forced into unnatural shapes as the hard, white fat squashes your soft jello-like organs into lava lamp blobs of inefficiency that sooner or later will cease to function altogether. When that happens, you might too.

The other thing that's going on is that thanks to your uninformed eating and drinking habits, your liver, kidneys, intestines and other organs are swelling due to the blockages, inflamation and storage of pus that results from eating processed food, red meat, dairy products and flour products and not enough raw vegetables and fruit. Poor bowel function and thus deteriorating health is inevitable.

Vigorous exercise helps bowel function. A lot. You can't stick your hands in there to massage your intestines when you feel bloated, but by doing crunches, sit ups and other forms of stomach tightening movements, you force your body to expell foreign material that doesn't belong inside you.

People use all kinds of creative excuses to avoid eating vegetables. No one is fooled, least of all your own body. Your body, inside and out is a direct result of every single bite, gulp and sip you've ever taken and every opportunity you've taken to exercise or not exercise. Your personal appearance tells the world what kind of a manager you are and how good you are at setting goals and priorities. If you have a pot belly, you are obviously abysmal. But you can choose to change. Our bodies can forgive a lot.

In the process of doing the exercise, you will lose (not "loose") weight. If you don't you are exercising too little and eating too much. It's a simple mathematical equation.

If you look at photographs of people from the '50s and '60s and earlier, you'll notice that most of those people were slim. Hardly anyone was overweight. Overweightness was a novelty. In those days, there was no processed food. Candy and pop (soda in the US) was a treat. NO ONE drank soft drinks at mealtimes.

Soft drinks of any discription are anything but soft. As a group their popularity has grown in lockstep with diabetes and cancer. Sugar is rocket fuel to bacteria and viruses. If it makes you feel good for a while, just think how good it makes all those things inside you that are actively trying to kill you - and you're paying the soft drink companies to help them do it!

Pouring refined sugar into your body short circuits your digestive process and delivers pure energy to the destructive forces of degenerative disease. When you consume candy, soft drinks and sugary processed foods like cereal you are injuring every cell in your body. It's too much of a good thing. Think about how refreshing it is to drink a glass of ice cold water while sitting in the hot sun next to the pool. The next thing you know, some fool has blown out the Three Gorges Dam and you are washed away in a wall of roiling water. That's what you do to your cells when you abuse sugar. And you wonder why you have a pot belly?

In 1900, the average person consumed one pound of refined sugar a year. In 2000 the average person consumed 320 pounds of refined sugar a year. Does that give you a clue as to where your pot came from? Think of the power to ferment and cause general mayhem all that sugar has on your body that did not evolve handle the 320 pounds or more of pure poison you stuff into it annually.

You shouldn't drink anything at all until half an hour after you eat. The reason for that is that fluids dilute your stomach acid, hindering the process of breaking down what you swallowed from a semi solid to a liquid known as "chyme". If the food you ate doesn't break down before it hits the colon, you might as well have not eaten it. Especially if it's meat and you're constipated. It that happens, you have chunks of raw meat curdling in your colon. In that case, you've turned your healthy colon into a toxic dump site that's plugged. Rotting food takes on a life of its own - especially at body temperature.

If you want to lose the pot, stay away from the butcher counter, the dairy aisle, the bakery, and all the aisles where you see colourful graphics instead of real food. The only healthy place to be in a grocery store in in the produce section and the fish section. Poultry can work if you can find any that isn't loaded with chemicals and drugs.

Most people who want to lose a pot or lose weight don't see themselves as sick. But excess weight is a dibilitating illness. Thinking you are merely getting rid of extra weight like you take off a heavy coat is delusional.

Fad diets like the Atkins diets never work over the long haul - they cause problems you can't see and eventually, as those problems force you to pay attention, you have to quit. At that point you put back the weight and more. The Atkins Diet is a menace.

getting enough sleep helps too. if you sleep late, you have a higher chance to pig out the next day.

Nice try Wayne. No doubt you are making an effort. But before you start telling people about how much information is on your site, you might want to actually put some content there.

As of right now, you are the only member of your own site and beyond listing a pile of books about dieting, most of which are nonsense, there is nothing on your site except an admittedly great looking site. NO INFORMATION AT ALL.
At least not that I could find.
