A calorie is the measure of heat energy produced from a certain quantify of food. What we usually a call a calorie, as in a 2000 calorie a day diet, is really a kilocalorie. Calories are good for you, in the sense that if you don't consume calories then you will die. They are bad for you if you consume too many and get fat.
Fat is any of various soft, solid, or semisolid organic compounds constituting the esters of glycerol and fatty acids. Total fat means the total amount of fat (usually in grams) that is contained in foods that you eat. Each gram of fat has about 9 calories. Fat is good for you in the sense that if you consume no fat, then you will die after a while and your body could not survive without fat molecules in it. It's bad for you if you have too much fat on your body or around your organs. Sodium in the context of food generally means any salt of sodium (which is the element Na on the periodic chart), as in sodium chloride (table salt - NaCl)or sodium bicarbonate, present in or added to foods or beverages as a seasoning or preservative and used in many pharmaceutical products as an antacid, anticoagulant, or other agent. Sodium is good for you if you consume the right amount, but consuming too much can kill you. Carbohydrates are any organic compounds that are polyhydroxy aldehydes or polyhydroxy ketones, or change to such substances on simple chemical transformations, as hydrolysis, oxidation, or reduction, and that form the supporting tissues of plants and are important food for animals and people. Total carbohydrates in food means the total amount of carbohydrates in a quantity of food, usually measured in grams. One gram of carbohydrate has bout 4 calories. Carbohydrates are necessary for animals to survive, so they are good, but as with calories if you eat too much you will get fat and that is not healthy. Proteins are highly varied organic molecules constituting a large portion of the mass of every life form and necessary in the diet of all animals and other nonphotosynthesizing organisms, composed of 20 or more amino acids linked in a genetically controlled linear sequence into one or more long polypeptide chain, the final shape and other properties of each protein being determined by the side chains of the amino acids and their chemical attachments: proteins include such specialized forms as collagen for supportive tissue, hemoglobin for transport, antibodies for immune defense, and enzymes for metabolism. There are about 4 calories in every gram of protein. Whether protein is good or bad is the same as for calories, fat and carbohydrates - when you eat the right amount, they are good. When you eat too much, it's bad. |

Calories tells you about the energy content of what you eat. The body stores unneeded energy in fat, so don't eat more calories than you need.
Total fat tells you about how much fat is in food, but it is basically meaningless since fat is composed of many different types, and some types are absolutely necessary Sodium can be found in table salt. Basically, you need quite a bit each day since you lose a lot in your pee, but too much sodium increases your blood pressure Total carbohydrate is important, since carbohydrates contain a lot of calories. Too much of it may cause diabetes in the long term and it can be converted to fat by your body. Proteins are building blocks for basically anything in your body, but can also contain calories. Most protein sources, such as meat, also contain a lot of fat. Proteins are made of amino acids, and some of these your body cannot make so you need to eat them. Too much protein may cause problems with your digestion. Bottomline, all are good, provided you don't exaggerate their consumption |

Calories, fat and carbs are NOT bad and DO not make you fat unless you take too many of them.
All foods have all of these things in them, so tosay they are bad, means we cant eat at all!!! Your body requires a certain amount of energy (calories) to survive. If you dont get enough you will die if you get to many you gain weight. Fat is simply the amount of fat in the product. Again, to much fat will make you fat. But we need some. Carbs are not bad unless you eat the wrong ones: sugary products, "white" products: aim for whole grain product. Protien helps repair muscles if you work out and keep your muscles strong. We need a balance of all of these things. And depending on your goals, and weight, i could tell you the reccommendations. |
