Default Allergens to be Careful of
1) Many are sensitive to yellow dye – Tartrazine – Yellow Number 5. Foods containing these include certain breakfast cereals, pies, canned puddings, etc.

2) People are also sensitive to sulphites which are contained in fried fruits, wines, french fries and chips, and pickles.

3) Another common sensitivity is due to MSG that is in Chinese foods.

These sensitivities – Tartrazine, Sulphites and MSG are not allergies, but rather sensitivities to these chemicals. Getting light headed and dizzy after a Chinese meal is due to the MSG.

4) Low calorie foods are surprisingly not exempted and it includes watermelon and all melons

5) Seafoods can trigger allergies too such as fish and shellfish

6) We should also be cautious of poultry, crops, and dairy products such as milk and egg, soy, wheat, peanut and tree nuts because these are one of the most common causes of allergies

Some of these allergens may be outgrown, but others, such as peanut and shellfish, will remain lifelong allergies.

This is a good post. What I do when I suspect that I am allergic to a particular food I always do a self test which is very important and should be observed by everyone for caution. In case you suspect to have allergy on a particular food, avoid it for a week. Then eat it in large quantities for a week. If the allergy comes back, then you have made a diagnosis.

Thanks viktoria! I wanted to learn more about allergens because I have food allergies too. The only weird thing is that I am not allergic to the melon meat but the dried seeds that you can buy in groceries. I am allergic to MSG too so when I eat too much of chips with it, I have difficulty breathing.

Oh really? That means less Chinese foods for you then for safety. Cooked or canned fruits such as apples and strawberries or applesauce and strawberry sauce may not cause symptoms because the cooking/canning breaks up the larger molecules. So if you are allergic to those too, this is a good way to enjoy it and not worry about allergy attack.

I'm glad that I don't have allergies to fruits and nuts because those are what I eat most of the time. I cannot eat shrimps, crabs, and squids though because I turn red the moment I put them in my mouth and my body itches so bad. However, the good thing about it is that I am not much of a fan of seafoods. Except for fish of course which luckily I can eat all I can
