Default New to atkins
Hi all I am new to the atkins lifestyle change. I started on Sept 25,09 to help a friend out and in return she has helped me. So anyways in the last few months I have dropped 50 lbs gained 10 lbs so I guess right now I am about 40 lbs gone, started at a pant size of 42 and is now down to a 36 that fits comfortably. I have done this by doing between 700 to 1600 cals and only 20 -30 carbs.

So here are some of my issues and if anyone can help I would be so pleased.
1. The bad taste in my mouth is there anything I can do to help it? so far I have done the sf tic tacs and gum but nothing.
2. leg cramps

So thank you for letting me post and I hope that everyone has a happy holiday.

Thank you bluehex
700 cals is to low I agree there are just alot of days were I was not hungry and it was to hard to force the food issue. I am working on that problem now trying to do smaller meals so that I may get in over 1500 but no more than 1800. I do not drink the water like I should I am also working on that I on avg it is only about 48oz somedays it is more but most days it is not. I do eat a lot of veggies try to fit in as much as I can. Normaly I do salads at lunch and then something light at dinner. Maybe need to try to get in more.

Exactly what I was thinking, Blue... if you have ketone breath you need to drink more water. We excrete excess ketones two ways... through exhalation and urination. If you're not drinking enough water to be urinating frequently all day, then your body HAS to excrete them by exhalation. Another way to reduce te excess ketones is to use them. That means exercise. If you're eating a very high fat diet, you will be producing more ketones, too, since they are a by-product of fat metabolism (fat you eat shows up as ketones when you're in ketosis).

So... more water, more veggies and double check your fat intake. Although I doubt it's too high since your calories are too low on some days.

Post a days' menu if you'd like some feedback!

Welcome tx

More water might help with the cramps as well.

Well the doc is starting me on metforman 500 er so not sure if that is going to help me get over the stand still or not. And I will try all of ya'lls advice. I went out and brought a 24 oz glass so if I can try and drink about 4 to 5 bottles a day then I would be looking at between 96 to 120 oz a day so that is my new goal. Thank everyone for there help and support.

I, too, want to welcome you.

You have a terrific start, and the advice from BlueHex and Tril is so right on.

Post daily if you can...start a thread of your own in the blog section if you think it will help you stay focused.

And if you have NOT done so already, measure yourself and write it down, like a weekly chart. Measure EVERYTHING...not just the obvious things. When you stall out later, and you WILL...happens to all of us when the body takes a breather to adjust (before the "Whoosh Fairy" drops a couple of pounds in one day)...you WILL continue to lose INCHES and who does not love THAT!

My best to you...great folks here...real experts. I just cheerlead when I can!

Cheerleading and Mothering are both available here...I've received some of each....usually when I needed it the most..

I've read THE BOOK...many times...but the advice and friendship on this forum has taught me more and encouraged me more than just reading a book could ever do...There's nothing like advice from someone who's walking the same path..especially those who are further along said path..

Yes it always seems better when someone is walking with you on this long journy. I have one friend who has been with me through every craving and every emotional stress out and has talked me out of doing a lot of stupid stuff. Sometimes I have been very hard headed, but I know she is giving the best advice for me. I am so glad that I have some place else to go and have others who understand where I am coming from.
I have been off the introduction stage for about 2 months and have fallen off three times eating a few chips, but the last one was 4 pieces of candy and that was on Monday and afterward I was so sick has anyone else noticed that?

What nice things you folks have said! The same "back atcha!" Thank you!

As to feeling sick, I've heard folks say when they eat something they know is bad for them, they have the same reaction. I think the body is telling us, in it's non-verbal way (translate) "See? I TOLD you this stuff is bad for us!! No more. OK?" and is asking us NOT to do it again!

I do my very best to not cheat, because it would make me (1) feel guilty, (2) put me on the "slippery slope" and (3) set me back weeks should I gain. Those pounds were stubborn to lose so I want to hang on to each loss like a mother lion guarding her cubs.

But none of us is perfect, so when I let myself down a little, I just forgive myself and promise myself to be strong. You have done that...great job!

BTW, Happy Holidays!!

Hey I have an odd question and maybe I just need to go to my doctor, but here it goes. I have noticed that the last two months I have had my monthly cycle twice during the month. Last month and then again this month I started in the second week and it would last maybe 3 days and then I would stop and at the end of the month I end up starting up again. Now here is some background I have been diagnosed with having insulin resistant since I was 20 I have stopped having regular cycles since I was 16 now going from having nothing to twice a month kind of worries me. If anyone has any advice I would be grateful for.

Hey Tex... how old are you?? I've had my cycle two times in November and two times in December. Lovely perimenopause. I'll be 50 in March. Oh... and last summer, it was once every two to three MONTHS.

If perimenopause isn't a possibility, you might consider calling your doctor. Have you lost a lot of weight fast? Like more than 10# a month? Estrogen is effected by body fat (the more body fat you have, the more estrogen you produce)... if you lose body fat fast, you body will produce too much estrogen for your new "size". This might be what happened to you. In the end, though, only you can decide if you need to see your doctor.

Maheen, I posted a long reply to you on another thread, but you are SO wise to start now, with 40 pounds to lose. That is SO doable!! You can do it!

Here it is the first of the year and I am still on track I did slip up a bit last night and had half a pancake and used the sf syurp, but today is another day to keep trucking. Good new I start this journey back in Sept wearing a sizes between 40-42 in pants well I tried on a size 32 on Sunday and guess what I got them up and zipped it did take some effort, but I did it. Could not breath freely, but I have been unable to pull them up over my hips in like 3 years so I take that as a huge step in the right direction. Thanks for all of the support that everyone provides on here.
