I just found out that i have a herniated disk in my lower back. It will need surgery and i will have to spend 1 night at the hospital which means hospital food. I also will be getting an iv which is probably bad as well. Then my recovery will be at least 2 weeks of zero excercise. I feel like this is a punch in the stomach as i was doing so well up til this point.

It's a temporary setback. Life is full of them. Be glad you didn't just find out you were pregnant.
![]() There are things you can do to mitigate the damage... talk to your dr about the IV and ask if you can have one without (or with less) glucose. Bring with you, or get someone else to bring to you, foods that you can eat. Not ALL of the hospital food will be off limits. ASK for what you need (chicken and veggeis, sf jello). I know right now this might sound like a bell tolling on your diet... but it's not. There's NOTHING that can happen in the hospital or the two week recovery that you can't fix or overcome after you're all better. This is life. You can deal with it, you can handle it and you can be successful NO MATTER WHAT. Other people deal with lots worse and they do it. You can, too. Tril |

thanks for the advice and i agree with all of it. I just found out that 95% of people recover from this type of injury after 6 months without surgery and i am not in serious pain so im going to put off having the procedure until i feel i absolutely need it (which may be never). Im also glad im not pregnant, because im a guy and thats impossible. =)

LOL... I know you're a guy. I just meant, at least it's not an issue that's gonna mess with your hormones, make you gain, keep you from losing and lasts (at least) 9 months. Or longer... like me. I didn't take off my pg weight for ten years.
2 weeks? A walk in the park. Glad you have an alternative... just remember, if you need it, get it done. Back pain isn't something that's easily lived with. Good luck! |

At 65, I am getting VERY pragmatic (not pregnant, pragmatic! LOL)
Time is relative...and when you decide to do this, give yourself a break. Any gain you "might" have will be artificial, temporary, and NOT of your own personal doing. Therefore, no guilt, no frustration, no rush...just do your best to accept and KNOW that within a week or two of being true to your plan, you will shed anything you MAY (or not) have gained and feel SO much better! After surgery, think of how good you will feel and all the things you can do THEN (but not now.) Life is good, and don't fear a little setback. It is NOT guaranteed to happen, but IF it does, it is NO BIG DEAL to YOU, because you have resolve to not let it be! With this program, you have a LIFETIME of good health...so a week, month, or a few months along the way truly do NOT matter! Have the resolve to say, "This is my lifetime plan." You WILL succeed! I had a bout with steroids I hated (Prednisone) when I was really losing WELL that set me back...but I just plugged on. That was in February. I am now 8 pounds from my goal! YOU can do it, too! My best to you... Toni |
