Default Blew it
Well, this weekend I was away from home and not as in control of my food as I would have liked to be. I blew it on Friday (on CAKE ) and then again on Saturday. Today is a new day and I am home, thank God, and committed to getting back into ketosis.
So, I'm back on my 20 carbs a day.
Wish me luck, getting through the day without cravings and stupid psychological urges to eat stuff that's bad for me!
BTW over the weekend, my brother in law who has diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure and stress had a mini stroke. (I say "mini" cause he's not paralyzed but just weakened on the right side of his body). That sure is enough to put the fear of God into anyone! (He's a guy who just doesn't take care of himself. Period.)

Hey Bat
so sorry to hear about your brother in law....

hey - don't worry about your cake-fest - it IS a new day, and you are back in control, baby!

just tell yourself that every little bit of sugar gets stored and used, and every time you eat some fat or protein, you're getting closer to using up the cake, and getting back into fat-burning. also - eat some good stuff! (like camembert cheese, or parmesan crackers: blob some in the frying pan, or on greaseproof paper int he microwave, sprinkle some chili powder on if you like and fry or micro until crackery! mmmm with cream of brocc soup! (bag of brocc, cup of stock, cook til mushy, and blend with lots of cream...)

you can do it! and any cravings will be gone again soon if you don't give in!

Thank you, Tracy for that shot in the arm!
I got through Sunday and most of Monday and then a craving knocked me over and I had a danish. Darn. Today I'm back on track and planning better. I am determined to make this work!!!
Would the broccoli soup come out good with water instead of stock? I don't mix meat with dairy.
Also, what on earth are parmesan crackers? Can I just take any ol' high fat yellow cheese and do this?

Thanks again!!

Try making the soup with vegetable broth, then! I think it would be bland w/o some kind of stock for flavor. I make cream of "whatever I have around" soup... asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, onion, etc. It's a great way to use up leftover veggies... or overcooked veggies.

Actually, I could use some of that gross chicken flavored soup powder. It only has about 1 carb per 100 m"l prepared soup...
How much cream would you put in a bag of broccoli? I see that the cream has 4.4 carbs per 100 m"l. That's almost as much as milk, but I assume you need alot less. I have no experience cooking with cream.

don't use that soup-stuff - it's got sugary additives i'm sure!

look for a campbells-type veg stock - or make your own (recipes abound online for sure)

um, how much cream per 500 gram bag of brocc (or whatever other veg you use...) - wellll i just sort of dump it in - but probably around 100 mls - this makes around 5 servings at 5 grams each (ish) -w ith 4 of those from veg (that's net carbs)

that's broccoli; it's less nc's with cauli- and more with onion, but you can do the math with whatever you're making.

oh, yeah, it's sooo good to have those soups on hand!

the parmesan crackers are just melted, then hardened cheese. parmesan works well - it melts more neatly...but you could use any cheese (not mozzarella) - and i often mix it with flax meal and a bit of water to make them fibre-y so:

1 tbsp flax meal (can be found in your health food store or grocery, or you can buy linseeds and crush them in a coffee grinder)

1 tbsp water
parmesan to taste (the grated stuff - not the dried powder stuff - although that might work fine - never tried it!)

mix it up, spread little blobs of it dime thin (makes around 4) on some greaseproof paper...microwave for 1 minute.

crackers! yummy dipped in soup!

but drink lots of water - flax needs LOTS to be a good bowel-friend

have fun!
